Title: 442 Wishlist
Post by: yitbos96bb on June 25, 2005, 01:06:30 PM
This is a wishlist for features for the 442.  Some will obviously not be possible on the current version (such as a touchscreen) but can be taken into account for future consideration.

My Wishlist!

Codecs - The 442 covers a great amount of codecs, including the most common - Divx, XVID etc.  I would love to see additional ones as well if possible.  THe more the merrier.

Audible support - On the codec note, I would love to see support for the files from Audible.com.  If you listen to Audio books, this is a great site and opens up another customer base.

Battery life - 5 hours is good for a PMP, but obviously this is an area that can always be improved upon.

Battery - I would love a changable battery, vs built in.  That way we can buy additional ones to use.

Car Charger - I am sure there is on in the works.

Housing - I love the look of chrome, BUT I hate how it gets smudged.  I would like a black case instead.

USB Charging - The battery should be chargeable through USB.

7 in 1 Card Reader - There is a lot of space where the SD slot is.  Adding additional support for CF, Memory stick etc, and basically allowing a Card Reader here would be nice.  If you are continuing marketing this with the 442, adding CF support is critical, or dropping it from the MPEG 4.

External Speaker - Not sure why it only works with Headphones, etc to save cost or battery life (or both.)  If not, then an IPOD like accessory that is small and flat would be nice.

Long name Support - THe file names get parsed.  I would love to see longer name support.

don't forget to put them in bugzilla too.  That's the tool we use when we review product enhancements and features.  If it's not in there (at least as a place holder) then it's probably getting skipped over.

Does this thing support .mp4 with AVC and AAC? Like Nero Digital and whatnot.

To make this a really convenient "portable PVR" type of product, a docking cradle would be nice. A unit with USB, A/V in, A/V out and power would allow the 442 to be docked and used as a PVR. The wires and power stay plugged in, and you simply pick up your PVR and take it with you. One competitor has a setup like this that also has an IR remote that works with the docking station, for ease of use and control when docked. They will also use a network connection (802.11b) to check Yahoo Calendar for saved TV shows and add them to a schedule of shows to record. That would make my Tivo obsolete and give me one device for everything.

-NOTE: I opened ticket 467 in Bugzilla for this wishlist request.

I would like to be able to make high quality audio recordings with the 442.  Do you think the 442 could compete with the m-audio microtrack?

So any news on when Nero Digital will work with the 442? (supporting .mp4 with AVC and AAC)
I can get the video to play but the audio only plays for a split second when the video first starts up...  [:(]
Is it still "on the way"?   or am I doing something wrong - divx video..etc. all play fine, and I have the latest firmware installed.
