Title: Recording locally by modifying the remote Post by: Ex-Navy on March 01, 2006, 06:53:03 AM Need to have your recorder start recording locally?
You need an extra remote and some soldering experience...oh... and the right tools. We know the remote uses an IR led to transmit the signals to the recorder. You can't go skydiving with a remote. A lance switch does not work. So, lets move the remotes IR LED right in front of the recorders reciever LED. The solution: Make the remote the control panel on the recorder........ Modifying the remote, The button pad on the remote can be easily peeled off, exposing the circuit board below. There are 4 philips screws (jewelers screws) that are removed to remove the circuit board and expose the IR LED. Desolder the IR led and solder a 3 lead flex strip in its place. Solder the Ir led to the other end of the 3 lead flex strip (about 4 inches in length.) Remove the top plastic case to the recorder. Slide out the IR receiver sun lense. Put the Ir led from the remote in front of the Ir receiver. Slide the lense back in place. Put the cover back on. Re-apply the remote button pad. Make sure it is applied exactly. Use double sided tape to stick the remote to the top of the recorder. When you don't need local control anymore, remove the top of the recorder, remove the flex stripped LED. Place the sun lense back in place, the top cover to the recorder and now use your other remote as normal. Future modifications can be drilling a small hole in a sun lense and having the LED on the inner side directly in front of the receiver LED. Also, modify the top plastic case of the recorder to include the remote panel already to go. Maybe as a seperate purchased accessory. These Neuros products make it very easy to use them in almost any application. They are easy to modify. Not just an MP3 or PMP, much more more. Excellent product!!
