I'm new to the forums and this is my first post here.  I just received the MPEG-4 recorder but I'm having difficulty connecting it to my TV.  I want to be able to record from the TV, History Channel, Sci-Fi for example (I don't have a DVD player, cable box, etc. already connected to my television.)  

I connected the MPEG-4 recorder to the television via the included cables.  I can get to the Neuros screen and main menu by pressing the TV/Video button on the TV remote but I can't seem to record anything.  I press the record button and all that seems to be recorded is a blank screen.  At least to me the instruction manual that came with the recorder isn't clear enough for me.

I can't change the channel on my television without first pressing the TV/Video button and by doing that I can no longer see the recorder menu's.  Obviously I'm doing something incorrectly and I just need a little help to figure things out.

In order for you to record TV programs, your recorder AV in, must have
video FROM the TV.
Your TV remote TV/Video button is used to select the video signal TO  your TV.

You need to have a converter of some type, cable box, DVD, VCR with Video out/Audio out RCA jacks on it.
You connect your recorder (AV IN) jacks to the Video OUT/Audio OUT jacks in order to record.
Get a cheap used VCR to do this. Then connect cable from the wall to Antenna in on the VCR. Antenna out on the VCR goes to Cable in on the TV.
Use the Video out on the VCR to the yellow AV in on the recorder
Use the Audio left and right out to the red and white AV in on the recorder.
Set up the Neuros recorder as it says in the booklet.

OK - I was able to get my hands on a VCR, hooked everything up, I'm getting a picture and able to record but no audio.  The video isn't the greatest quality (default settings) but right now I'm more concerned with getting the audio working correctly.  

Does anyone have any suggestions that I can try?

have to ask to, does your cable box have AV out connections? if so, and you only want to record from tv, you don't need the vcr.

also, check out these instructions--they helped me alot in getting it set up correctly (even though i'm recording for playback on a psp)

I don't have a cable box, just an antenna that comes out of the wall. I hooked that up to the back of the VCR.  The front of the VCR has the three inputs for video and audio that's what I'm using to connect the MPEG-4 Recorder.  The back of my TV only has two inputs not the three that are required.

I'll check out the instructions that you suggested and see how that goes. Thanks for the reply.

Andre, usually the front of the VCR is for input (Video IN)
On the back, where you connected the cable, does the VCR have
Video out, Audio out (Red and white)??
This is where you should be connecting the R2.

hate to say it but now I'm having problems--I somehow had it hooked up thru my vcr and was able to timer record, but like an idiot I unhooked it to try another config since my tv has outputs on the back. I connected the cables from the out terminals on my digital cable box to the In on the recorder, then the out from the recorder to In on the tv. I get the picture, menu etc--everything seems great. But when I set the timer and turn the tv off (leaving the cable box and recorder on), it won't record anything. If the tv's on--great, once I turn it off--nothing (yes the recorder timer is set to On). I tried tonight to go out from the vcr, in to the recorder, out from the recorder, in to the tv--no menu or anything--I dont know what I'm doing wrong.

It sounds like you are doing everything ok.
Out from the cable box or VCR to in on the Recorder.
Out from the recorder to in on the TV.

I know it sounds stupid, but turn the TV off and initiate a record
by pressing the record button on the remote.
I just want to eliminate the timer record function.

Does it record properly this way??

yes--one of the things I was trying with that config was starting the recording myself (as you suggested) and then turning the tv off. I let it go for a few minutes and it recorded fine. Set up the timer for later that night, and got nothing.

It's kind of weird because it works great as long as the tv is on--I've been making sure all my timer settings were correct too. When I did the vcr out set up, I don't even get the menu screen--it's just blank (even w/the vcr on)

Not to insult your intelligence or anything, but... did you set the N2's *clock* in addition to its timer?

As for the missing sound from the other poster, does this only happen on your PC or also when you play back directly from the Neuros? Are you sure you have the right audio codec on your computer?

that's ok--I understand the need to narrow down what's happening. To answer your question--yes, the clock is set correctly. I was messing with it again this weekend, and as in my earlier posts, it's fine except for timer recordings. It's driving me nuts because I'm usually pretty decent at figuring this stuff out, but...

Do you have the Auto Record function ON by any chance?

no--I made sure that was off (it starts up right away if it's on)

After much research, I've figured out that it's the recorder that's not working correctly--particularly the timer feature. My boss has one of these too so I was able to compare notes with setting up the timer, and with the tv on or off, it won't start recording. If I press the record button or auto record function, it works great. Now I have to go about getting it exchanged.
