Title: Neuros file working on Archos Play
Post by: archos user on July 15, 2006, 09:34:35 AM
Has anyone had any luck getting files recorded on a Neuros II to play on a Archos 402 (specifically pocketdish AV402)?

I have a PSP and the Neuros files work great on that, but it would be nice to have them play on the Archos as well.

By the way, I'll put a plug in here for the Archos Players, they make a good storage device for your movies.  Because it has USB Host capabilities, it is also capable of "pushing" files to the PSP.  Nice for long trips, you don't need a laptop.

Any help that can be provided would be appreciated.  By the way, I have the latest Neuros Firmware.

I reviewed an Archos model, and it was pretty neat, especially the USB host thing. I vaguely remember them using DiVX AVIs as one of their main formats, so if this is correct, you'll have to transcode Neuros content before placing it on there. Most Archos devices also support Windows Media formats, but trying to encode into or out of Windows Media is sort of like hitting yourself with a brick, only less fun.

It looks like the AV 402 has Windows Media Player 9 installed and to play files created with the Recorder 2, you would need Windows Media Player 10. You will most likely have to reencode the files to play them on your pocketdish player.

Really? I didn't think any Archos devices ran any version of Windows/Windows Mobile or had a full Windows Media Player installed. Don't they just have a basic media-player type interface?

Thanks for the answers so far.

I don't totally understand the media player 10.  I downloaded windows media player 10, but I don't see any way to convert the files.

Also, do you have any insight as to mp4 avi files?  I thought mp4 was one type of file and avi was another.  But, while the archos says it supports mp4, it only plays avi files.

Thanks!!

Actually Neo is correct, it is a media player interface.
The video formats are quite confusing I will give you that, AVI is one of the MP4 format, it is a wrapper.
Try to record a clip with the QVGA 30 fps 3gp resolution setting with the new firmware (2.0.19), and try to play it on your archos unit. Let us know how this goes.
