Title: ***Please*** fix 2 hour limit!!!
Post by: AlphaBob on August 25, 2006, 10:37:01 AM
I just received my Neuros Recorder a few days back and have really fallen in love with it.  However, one thing that irks me very much is the 2 hour limit imposed on each recorded segment.  At first I figured I would just make a new file with the segments joined, but that had two MAJOR drawbacks.  First was it added about a half-hour of time to splice/rewrite the video (just disk processing time).  That is simply a waste of time.  But the worst issue is that several seconds of video are lost when the recorder has to setup/switch to the next segment.  This means a very bad gap appears in the joined video!!!

Imagine my surprise when the last thing I recorded went over by 3 seconds!

For god sake, guys, at least bump the limit to 2.5 hours.  That would probably cover 95% of all movies.  As it stands, I'd say about 1/3 of my collection won't fit on a single 2 hour segment.

This is SO FRUSTRATING!!   :-[

Yes, I'm with you, it's incredibly annoying.  I've also asked if we could have it bumped to 2.5 hours.  The trouble is that the .mp4 format requires some kind of table thats stored in ram.  it's apparantly a big table that maxes out the 4MB of RAM on the system at 2 hours.  Apparantly it could be fixed by using another recording format, but then that wouldn't play on the PSP or iPod.  Unfortunately, those are the options we have with the R2 hardware right now.

So does this mean there is no way of this ever being fixed by a firmware upgrade?

Will it mean MPEG4 recorder 2 customers who want to record movies longer than 2 hours in length, have to purchase a new device from neurosaudio as and when it becomes available?

From what I have been told, the only software fix is to use a different file wrapper (ie. avi or asf).  Let me get with the folks here to see what we can do about some kind of exchange or upgrade type program...

Does the new Neuros OSD have a 2 hour time limit as well?

I'm using these to podcast some of our classes at my university.  We have about twenty of these little devices and they are great, except when we have a night class that runs three or more hours.  PLEASE tell me there is a way around this.
