Title: New forum section ?
Post by: dongle on September 15, 2006, 08:47:54 AM
Joe,

Many of the forum enquiries are centered around powering the R2 (OSD soon) away from the wall socket. Even with my short association with this site I can see the same topics being raised. The problem is that the replies and advice remains current for a while but after the topic slips to page 2 then people have to start searching for the information.

There are only a limited number of ways to obtain external power and even fewer to get the correct voltage to the Neuros so perhaps we could have a forum section that just deals with power issues.  Not many posts would be needed to cover all scenarios.

A second part to this section could be for people such as Ex-Navy & myself to adverstise products/solutions.  Once Ex-Navy gets the R2 alternate remote into production he will have to keep advertising it in the R2 section each time it falls into page 2. A dedicated section would effectively keep this post "sticky".

Anyway it is just a thought.

Cheers

I'm not staunchly opposed to adding new sections and I certainly see your point here.  As you probably know, we just migrated from forums that were a complete mess and one of the big conclusions was that too many forum sections were one contributor.  Even in your post, an issue is revealed.  Power issues are pertinent to both the R2 and the OSD.  Which section does it go in?

Honestly, my first choice would be to add to the wiki FAQ (or some other pages) and link to them for a sticky post there.  Its totally permissible (encouraged even) for you guys to advertise products there or link to outside websites.  Can we try this first before creating a new category?

No problem, having a sticky link is a good option as it guides the enquiry to the right place and a wiki page is probably the perfect way of collating this information. Also removing posts that advertise non Neuros devices would also remove the implication that they are "approved" by Neuros.

I guess that there are not many sticky posts in the R2 & OSD sections so perhaps a link in both would be appropriate.
