Title: error 0x0801??
Post by: nodestination on November 21, 2006, 03:38:50 PM
Aloha, i'm in need of some assistance. (and if you're like me living w/o your music makes you wither away into a slow and painful state of dispair). i've had my neuros II 80g for about a month (i've put ~65g on it). yesterday i accidentally pressed record as i made my way out of work. it recorded for roughly a minute and a half. this is the 1st time i've ever used the record feature. the player played well on the ride home. i turned off the car and switched on the lock. while walking to my door i stopped and talked to a neighbor and inadvertantly pressed a button. as i went inside my house i noticed the error message 0x0801. and of course it said to press play to restart. now my unit won't play. i did the NAND reformatting and will reformat the HD next i guess. i'm worried that it might be a hardware issue though because in this error 'mode' it sometimes makes a little 'chirp' sound when navigating through the now incoherant tracks of albums, and also 'chirps' sometimes upon shutdown. incidentally as it won't play any music, i need to shutdown by 'play/up' to get it off when attempting to play something. will a HD formatting work (and then the subsequent re-syncing), and how can i avoid this in the future????

Mahalo nui loa for you time and kokua

What firmware are you using?

the gapless firmware, which is based off the 2.26 i believe (for my neuros is basically useless w/o gapless.... and incidentally- it's not true gapless which would be to imply a seamless playback. there's still a click. and while that's no gap... it's still an annoying little click [sorry for the rant]). i reformatted the HD/media/NAND and every other option in the diagnostic boot.... resynced and now it plays fine.  my only worry is that when i'm away from home i won't be able to just resync. i'm wondering what i can do to avoid future snafu's because this kind of thing could ruin a trip.

(i was thinking this would be a good place to keep a log of my neuros troubles, for those searching and interested in the product and it's potential problems. however let it be known that this thing puts out the best sound quality- far better than ipod- of any player i've heard... plus ogg support. so i don't want to bash the thing, but it's quirks should be known. before i bought it, i searched these forums and many other players' to find out common issues)

anyway. i got the error again today, and it was after taking the player off of lock once again. this was an hour ago... so we'll see what happens. i did a NAND reformat and Revive bad blocks format right after i shut it down (had to do the 'hard' shutdown... up/play). so it plays now, but like i said it's only an hour after.

anyone else have trouble with the lock feature....hhmmmm is the lock feature even my problem???

I tried that firmware, but I don't remember an error like that. That doesn't mean I didn't have an error like that. I may have and just don't remember. I do remember having database problems every time I plugged the thing in so I went back to 2.25. 2.28 had all kinds of problems so I stopped using it. I don't recall hearing anyone else complain about 2.28, but each time I tried it I had to reformat everything to remove data corruption. I've been using 2.25 for months now with no data corruption problems. I use my Neuros daily and I usually add/remove stuff daily as well.

You might want to think about going back to official firmware to ensure your problem is not hardware related. I recommend 2.25.

thank you very much for the reply. so far the NAND and bad blocks reformatting is working as steps to remedy. but it definitely seems like a database corruption issue. sometimes i think it was from trying to turn the neuros on while 'half' on lock and 'half' not. i've been thorough about putting it completely on lock and then completely off, perhaps superstitously, but both errors came about when the unit was turned on while locked.... or 'half' locked as i'm presuming. i'm going to stick with the 'gapless' firmware however. pink floyd and radiohead and all my shows etc. etc. will be unlistenable without it. mahalo again
