Title: Playback quality Post by: steveG on November 21, 2006, 07:06:49 PM I have a question about the current and future state of the video playback. I have tried to playback some .mpg files from a usb stick with the osd. The file plays back without problems on my computer from the same usb stick. When I try to play it back on the osd the video is very stop and start. It will play for perhaps two seconds, then halt for a second before continuing. If I play back a lower bitrate, less than full screen, .avi file the playback seems to proceed without the problem.
So... Should the video playback without problems from a usb stick or should I just plan to use an sd card? How close to final quality is the current record and playback? Title: Re: Playback quality Post by: greyback on November 23, 2006, 11:45:02 AM I do hope playback issues improve, the codecs do need some work yet.
I find many mpg files are dropping frames while playing, giving a stuttery video. The following bug: http://bugzilla.neurostechnology.com/show_bug.cgi?id=807 (http://bugzilla.neurostechnology.com/show_bug.cgi?id=807) details this issue, however the 3rd message isn't too encouraging. I've also got avi files where the a/v sync continually goes way out within a few minutes. Hopefully related to this bug: http://bugzilla.neurostechnology.com/show_bug.cgi?id=783 (http://bugzilla.neurostechnology.com/show_bug.cgi?id=783). I can have these files available on request, if anyone's interested. However I won't log duplicate bugs! -G Title: Re: Playback quality Post by: kelly on November 23, 2006, 08:28:55 PM There are problems if playback mpg files at present( 3.26-0.29),the problem is same as your description. It's not relevant with using USB or SD cars.
This problem will be fixed later. Title: Re: Playback quality Post by: JoeBorn on December 02, 2006, 12:50:17 PM it's worth noting that when Kelly says "fixed later," she really means we're working on fixing this right now. It's just kind of a literal translation from Chinese that implies something different in English.
I don't beleve "comment no 3" you cited above is relevant to the production unit. I find it inconceivable that 64MB is not adequate for any kind of playback. It's something like 4x what the R2 had and it played back 2mbps divx just fine. Title: Re: Playback quality Post by: steveG on December 05, 2006, 04:24:45 PM Are the units now being sold "production units" with the 64MB?
Title: Re: Playback quality Post by: greyback on December 06, 2006, 06:52:04 AM Yup, units shipping now are hardware complete.
Guess it's just the codec needs work. -G |
