1  Neuros Digital Audio Computer / Neuros Digital Audio Computer - I need help! / No buttons working at all on Neuros on: November 13, 2006, 04:00:00 PM
I posted this in a different thread, but it may have become lost in the shuffle.  I'll start a new topic, and see if this gets any replies.  Help would be greatly appreciated, since I would hate for my Neuros to become a paperweight!

I was going to add a couple of more CDs to my Neuros 80GB model, but when I connected it to my PC, the PC did not recognize it at all.  I needed to fill out the User Name and Backpack name when I ran the Synchronization Manager.  The Synch manager did not detect any of the songs that were already on the Neuros, despite the fact that I had been using it about 5 minutes prior to hooking it up to my PC.  I tried going ahead and re-adding all of the songs to the Neuros, but that didn't work.  My system locked up, and I had to do a hard power down.

I was able to get the power on by unplugging the Neuros, doing the "hard shut down" (up on the joystick and hitting the play button) and then plugging it back in.  If I do that while holding down 1 and 5, I get the diagnosis menu just fine:  "NAND Disk.  Hard Drive.  Exit"  shows up.  The problem now is that the large middle button (the "joystick" if you will)  doesn't work at all.  If I try to turn it off normally using the power button, nothing happens there either.  The only way I can shut it down is the Up-Play combination.  Since the Up-Play works, it seems obvious the problem is with the memory, and not a physically broken joystick.  The directional arrows don't work, so I don't know how to clear the flash memory.  Is there an "auto flash" command that I can use on boot-up?

The Neuros is locked into place (I took it out and put it back in, just in case it had become dislodged somehow.) but I'm at a loss as to what to do next.  The only command that seems to work is the hard stop.  Any ideas?

Follow-up question from someone else who was having a similar problem...only none of my buttons are working properly either.

3  Neuros OSD / Neuros OSD - I need help! / Re: OSD Properties menu on: October 06, 2006, 08:11:11 PM
How do you get out of the Properties menu? I can see my Version, Mac address and Serial number, but I cant get out with out rebooting (ESC three times or unpluging the OSD)

This is going to sound silly, but have you tried the "Back" button on the remote?  That gets me out of just about every screen I've been in and moves me up one level in the screen hierarchy.  The "Home" button may also work as well.

I found the file on this page
http://open.neurostechnology.com/node/573

Thanks.  I just downloaded that version.  The USB is still unstable, from the looks of the page.  I'll change my bookmark to this page, since it looks more up-to-date than the one I had been checking.

I upgraded to the 3.20-0.16 version and found that the only way I could get a usb drive connected was to pwower down the OSD then plug it back in, then it would find the usb drive. If the OSD rebooted it could not find the usb drive.

Stupid question - Where is the latest firmware located?  The page I normally check is http://www.neurostechnology.com/support/support_updates_beta.asp, and that is still listing the most recent version as 3.18-0.13

I'll try upgrading the firmware (I was able to do that with my SD card first try) and see how that works.

I can answer my own question here.
I was not able to upgrade using a USB key or USB hard drive. I used a SD card and the upgrade proceeded with no problems.  After the upgrade, the USB key was recognized and could read the files.  Unfortunately, the player would not display images or short videos from the USB device.

I was able to upgrade using a Secure Digital memory card without any problem.  However, I can't even access the USB drive that is hooked up to the OSD.  I've tried two different drives, and each one had different problems.

The first drive was the 80 GB Neuros MP3 player.  (What can I say...I like your products! :-)  The problem I had hooking that up to the OSD was that the MP3 player kept trying to synchronize.  That went on for over half an hour before I had to cancel it.

The second USB hard drive that I tried hooking up is a 500 GB one.  That one doesn't even show up when I go into the main menu and look under File Browser.  Can the BIOS on the OSD recognize a USB drive that large?  I had to upgrade my PC's BIOS to get it to recognize the hard drive, so I'm curious if the OSD has the same problem.

Any help on either of these problems?

Something I'm trying to figure out from the various sources a very basic thing...is the idea to simply use the OSD with an external USB drive to record/play from?
I don't see anything about an internal drive on the various pages.

Use either a USB drive, or a Memory card of some sort.  You are correct in that there's no internal drive on this at all.

So could Neuros confirm that if I insert a 2Gb memory stick pro card into the OSD and record a movie that is longer than 2 hours in length to that card, it will work?

Assuming that the stick can hold over two hours worth of the video quality that you're trying to record, yes.

In general we're quite anti-DRM, but I do believe we're going to have to be pragmatic eventually, and of course make sure we haven't crippled the devices in any way in accepting DRM files...

And this is why I like buying your stuff: You let me listen/watch my audio/video, no questions asked.  Too bad more people don't feel that way!

Unless it is changed at a later date, it looks like the amount of time you can record is based solely on the storage you have available.

As of the latest firmware version, if you go into "Recorder" in the main menu, there's an option for Recording Length.  Originally, it's set at "No Limit" You can change it to go anywhere from 5 minutes to 6 hours in 5 minute intervals.
