1  Neuros 442 Personal Media Player / Neuros 442 - I need help! / Re: Buttons not answering on: June 20, 2006, 09:31:10 PM
Ok, I figure the support guys must've had time to think things over by now, so any news about my buttons?
cuz I'm at the state where I can't use my Neuros 442.. even though all the functions are actually working, I can't access them, so the 442 stays on a shelf, and I'm using a CD-mp3 player. Great.

hey FJ, thanks for posting.. [Smiley]
Well, as far as I can tell, the josytick itself does not seem to have any problems, as when the unit is open (both halves separated), the controls are fine. It's when I put the thing back together that after a while the controlls go fuzzy.
I almost get the feeling that the get "too tight" inside if you see what I mean..
anyway, if the guys have any idea, I'll be willing to experiment!

3  Neuros 442 Personal Media Player / Neuros 442 - Feedback and Discussion / Re: Unit Heating Up on: May 05, 2006, 07:01:45 PM
well, I seem to be collecting issues with my unit.. (check my other posts if you want Smiley )

This has happened to me about twice or three times in the past week. Never did before.
I didn't think of reseting it. So I basically drained the battery to nothing, and then it would work again after a recharge. I think.
I'm still not quite sure of why it worked again or not.. at one point, it powered on, and shut down a few seconds later, the battery being empty (but it didn't even have time to flash the "low battery" message)
But I did think of putting my ear on the back of the unit, and whereas usually you can easily hear the hard drive spinning, I couldn't hear anything. Maybe the spinning sound was really very low, but I kind of doubt it..

Well, if it can help to solve the issue..

4  Neuros 442 Personal Media Player / Neuros 442 - I need help! / Re: Buttons not answering on: May 05, 2006, 06:45:14 PM
well actually, it seems that after a while, the buttons go back to the same state (same problems on the same buttons), so I have had to redo that trick a few times. Three to be exact.

I'm getting to know the insides of my 442 rahter well by now, but I still feel it shouldn't be a routine thing that I do opening it. You know kind of like "come home, go to the loo, brush my teeth, open up my 300 euro piece of high-tech equipment, change clothes, go to bed"..

any official opinion on what might be happening? remember, you CAN tell me I'm fcuked, I don't have a warranty! Wink

well, I finally got around to unscrewing some screws and twisting a swiss army knife.. and for whatever reason I don't know, the buttons are now back to full working condition.
And the warranty that I never had is officially gone! [Cheesy]

well thanks to everyone who enjoyed this thread (cough) and hope this can help someone in the future.. Wink

8  Neuros 442 Personal Media Player / Neuros 442 - I need help! / Buttons not answering on: April 04, 2006, 04:49:00 AM
Hi
I got my neuros 442 (updated to the latest firmware) in october over eBay, and quite like the little beast, even though I did file in some polite complaints back when I got it (my first post, but it never was answered by anyone. note to self: don't post long messages or else people don't read them and give up).

So I'm back, but this problem is a little more.. problematic.

The 4 way button and the play button are [i have a dirty mouth]ed up.
Precisely, "up" gave in a while back, then "down" started having difficulties, then "right " gave up and now, worst of all, "play/enter" won't work. So I'm stuck looking at the pretty menu animation, scrolling only to the left, since it the last fully working button.
Every now and then, some of the failing buttons will work, but when you have to tap buttons for 10 minutes (I counted) to get to read a song, it's frustating, to put it mildly.

My unit fell once, in it's protective cover, and didn't show any damage afterwards. It kept on playing fine, and all buttons were responding.
And the buttons problem appeared gradually, first only being annoyance, and now getting to the point where the unit is technically working, but can't be used.

I realise I don't have a warranty as I bought it on eBay, but if there is a trick or anything to make it work, I'm ready to unscrew some bolts and put some circuitry back in place. I'd just like to have Neuros' advice before doing so. Smiley

cheers

9  Neuros 442 Personal Media Player / Neuros 442 - Feedback and Discussion / low screaching sound? on: April 04, 2006, 05:27:50 AM
sorry for the imprecise title, but this problem is a little weird.

While playing a video (divx or xvid), sometimes, the sound will turn into a screaching blurb. Hard to describe. A sort of low bass-distorted sound replaces the soundtrack of the video file that's playing.
If I can, I'll try to post a sample to help hear what it sounds like.

It happens randomely (ie: not a precise point in a video file), and will last untill I pause the unit (to be honest, I haven't tried to see if goes away all by itself, as that sound blasting out of my earphones is rather discomforting).
Here are the specs of some video files it has happened with, given by Gspot:

audio
Codec: 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3
Bitrate: 121 kb/s (60/ch, stereo) VBR 48000 Hz
video
Codec: xvid
Bitrate 798 kb/s

audio
Codec: 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3
Birate: 128 kb/s (64/ch, stereo) VBR 44100 Hz
video
Codec: DX50/DIVX
Bitrate: 1104 kb/s

audio
Codec: 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3
Bitrate: 128 kb/s (64/ch, stereo) CBR 44100 Hz
video
Codec: DivX 4 (OpenDivX)
Bitrate: 892 kb/s

so as we can see, it happens both with CBR and VBR sound, and at both 44.1 khz and 48 khz. At first I thought it was the 48 khz that was problematic, but other files with a similar frequency sampling (is that the proper term? not sure here) work fine.

also, while I'm on the subject, I had a movie A that played back fine (avi file, divx codec), then I added a another short movie B (mp4) to the folder that came after it in alphabetical order. After that point, any time I tried playing A it would automatically skip to B, the same way it does when it reaches the end of a video and plays the next item. Odd eh?

well I still have this problem first: http://www.neurosaudio.com/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7125 [Cheesy]

thanks to anyone who might have an idea and/or explanation! [Wink]
