Try using sorune to transfer songs to your mp3 player and to build your data base. I also found I was having the same issues when trying to transfer music. You can find the program at this link http://www.sorune.com/ It's pretty self explanitory and much easier to use than the software that it comes with.

[Thanks so much Oosty. Your fix solved my shut down problem perfectly. I am now syncing the Neuros using the sync manager. The Neuros Unit says it is syncing/ Do not disconnect. It is doing this for an unusually long amount of time. Any thoughts on this? What do your recommend? Mike]

The type of issues that you and SSA are experiencing are often resolved by reformating something called the NAND. For some reason they neglected to mention this easy fix in user guide. Start with your Neuros powered down. Hold down the 1 and 5 preset buttons while pressing the play button. A diagnosis screen will come up. Select "NAND Disk" followed by "Formant NAND Disk". You will get a warning that data will be permanently lost. Don't worry it won't do anything to your music files. Select "Yes" to format the NAND. Now to address why the problem may have started in the first place. The very first time I sync'd my Nerous, I was not very careful about when I disconnected it. If you ever disconnect the USB cable durring a sync or if your computer goes into sleep mode while communicating with your Nerous, bad things happen and the NAND will need to be reformated. I had to reformat mine several times when I first got it. Since then, I always make sure I use the "safely remove hardware" feature in my system tray before disconnecting and I haven't had a problem since.

Finnaly, I fully agree with SSA on the use of Sorune. Let me know if this helped.

I am new to mp3s, and wanted to enter this new world, and downsize my cd collection. So, I haven't gotten and external hard drive yet, and download and back up all my music from my downloads onto cd as data for now. Here's the problem, my worst fear about Mp3 players came true today. I sync'd using the neuros sync manager. Now the unit, a 30 GB backpack unit, wont shut down. It plays fine. When you shut it down by holding down play, it " hangs" on the Neuros shut down screen, until you do the " Play button/up jog dial rest" That's the only way to shut it down now. When I connect it to the 2.0 USB port I usually do, the sync manager does not recognize the device is attached. My neighbor who has a neuros gave me a 1.0 usb to try connecting to the PC through the 1.0 USB port. Still nothing. Cant shut it down normally, can't sync period... please can anyone help? Mike
