1  Neuros Digital Audio Computer / Neuros Digital Audio Computer - I need help! / Power from USB? on: May 16, 2006, 01:08:49 AM
I know that the Neuros II doesn't draw enough power from the USB port to charge the battery, but when I plug it into the USB port when the battery is completely drained, it seems to work. The battery indicator blinks as if the unit is being powered. The backlight to the screen comes on, but flickers a little bit at first. This worries me, so I turned it off after a minute or so. Does the Neuros draw enough power from USB to power the device? Will it hurt it if I try to do this extensively?

If you have the latest firmware for the Neuros, then the main menu of the Neuros itself should contain a "File Browser" option that allows you to navigate the hard drive of the Neuros as you would if it was connected to your computer.

The only thing I can recommend is this: If you're using the feature of the Neuros to automatically find the station to broadcast to, don't. It doesn't work at all. Manually change your radio station to the one as far away as possible from any broadcasts, and get as close as possible to 100% dead air. If you live in an area where most of the frequencies are in use, it unfortunately may not be possible to get the NCast to sound perfect.

You can avoid the database management entirely by not using the synchronization software and simply dragging and dropping your MP3s into the "MUSIC" folder and using the Neuros file browser instead of the normal track navigation.

Alternately, NeurosDBM (http://neurosdbm.sourceforge.net) is synchronization software that, while flawed, is better than the software that comes with the system.

Hey guys,

I just got my Neuros 80 Gig. It's my first real Mp3 player, and I'm very happy with it, but I just have one gripe: The track management sucks! I have Mp3s set up on my computer with a nested directory system, Artist->Album->Track, or just Album->Track for compilations. Each track is named 01 - Trackname.mp3, so that when I open a folder in Winamp, the tracks are automatically in order. It's very convenient.

However, it seems like the only way to organize tracks on the Neuros is with ID3 tags, something I never bothered with when I downloaded music. Now my files are all mixed up, I have a thousand artists listed because of the ID3 tags for compilation albums (which makes them impossible to navigate) and it's just and all-around mess. In order to fix it, I'd have to go through and manually fix the ID3 tags for about 3,000 songs. Not a fun prospect!

Can any of these alternative file managers allow me to set up my Neuros to use the same simple directory structure I've always used?

I'd really appreciate it if anyone out there can help me!
