Neuros Digital Audio Computer / Software / Re: Alternate Software/Firmware for Neruos 2?

hi,
i'm using ndbm to build the neuros audio database straight from the files that i copied into the drive. it's really fast. but the playlist feature is just the opposite...extremely slow. i have standard m3u playlist files created from a utility the i use called "id3browse". it's also lightning fast. using ndbm, i've found no way to import into the database these m3u playlist files. or am i missing something?

Neuros Digital Audio Computer / Neuros Digital Audio Computer - I need help! / Re: how better is "garbage" than the stock firmware

one additional thing. with the original firmware, when i start out playing all songs in random mode, then switch over to sequential, the order is not in album hierarchy. sequential is defined as an alphabetical listing of all songs. the only time that sequential means track order is when i select a particular album to play.
does the garbage firmware also address this?
ideally, when i hear a song at random and i feel like listening to the entire album, i would switch the playback mode to sequential to listen to the entire album. this is not how the stock firmware operates.

Neuros Digital Audio Computer / Software / Re: will the n2 operate on plugged in power only?

confirmed! i took the unit apart, took the battery out and put the unit back together. then i tested with the usb cable and the wall power adapter. neither would power up the backpack unit nor the player unit. it appears that the battery serves as the only power source.
as all 2.5" drives can by powered by usb power alone, i don't understand why it was designed this way. the circuitry should have been designed to accept power directly from the usb cable and/or the power connector.
if a dead battery still allows the unit to function with power constantly supplied through the power connector, i would assume that the battery connector on the board can be shorted to allow a direct flow of power from the outside to the unit. is this correct? i guess that's an experiment for another day.

Neuros Digital Audio Computer / Software / will the n2 operate on plugged in power only?

hi,
new to the neuros mp3 player here. i was wondering about the day when the battery finally dies and will no longer hold a charge. will the player still operate if it's constantly plugged in? since i plan to use it mainly in the car, replacing the battery isn't a critical thing for me if it works without a battery.
also, if it does work with a dead battery (but plugged in, of course), does the battery need to be connected for the power to pass through or can i open up the player and physically disconnect the battery?
can anyone who's experienced battery problems shed light on this?
thanks.

Neuros Digital Audio Computer / Neuros Digital Audio Computer - I need help! / how better is "garbage" than the stock firmware

hi,
for those of you that have load the n2 with "garbage" instead of the latest stock firmware (2.28), what do you see are the advantages, and are there any problems?
i kind of want to try it out but the only benefit i see for myself is that the backlight will not be continously on when plugged in. since the source of the backlight is leds, it shouldn't take much power at all, saving very little charge time. if i'm wrong here, please let me know.
what made you switch and how has it turned out?

do you mean that the data signals traveling between the backpack and the player would be distorted? i don't see how since it's completely digital. or is it just that the signal would weaken due to longer distances? even so, i don't think that a 15 ft cord (about 5 meters) would affect it. i am estimating it should be about 15 ft because the cord might have to be routed along whatever crevice is available. it would be nice if it can be a straight line from the trunk to the front.
as far as the audio signal is concerned, the audio jack is still coming from the player unit, and that's up front...close to the head unit in the car. same as it's always been and subject to whatever interference it experiences now. but i've never experience an audio cable so poorly made that there is any noticeable interference.

it just occurred to me that since the whole package consists of the player and the backpack, that the player itself can be used as the remote.
what's needed is an "extension" pack that connects to the backpack where the player now docks. this "extension" pack would have a wire leading to another module (much smaller than the backpack, obviously) that docks with the player.
how about it neuros? this is pretty easy to implement. no firmware changes needed. all that's needed is to build the "extension" pack. the basic concept is to use a bunch of long wires to connect the pins on the backpack to the pins on the player.
then i could leave the backpack behind the second row seats and permanently connected to the power supply. and holding just the player to control the music would be so much easier.

hi,
i just got my neuros n2 a couple of days ago, charged it up, moved my music (about 40 gigs) to the backpack using just the windows explorer, and synced the db using ndbm. i had heard that the sync process would really take a while, so when it finished within 5 minutes, i was pleasantly supprised.
anyway, i plan on using it mainly in my truck, so the lack of a car charger was a disappointment. i'll get one from radio shack, so it's not a real problem. the problem i have, however, is that the screen is too small to be used in the car.
is there anyway, through firmware changes, to allow for an attached external wired remote controller with a larger display through one of the two usb ports? mount the remote controller up front and leave the neuros any where you want (under the seat, in the trunk, and in my case, behind the back seat of a truck).
hue.
