1  Neuros Digital Audio Computer / Neuros Digital Audio Computer - I need help! / Re: Please Plug In Power Cable - Firmware on: June 24, 2006, 12:56:22 PM
Thanks, but I had to replace the original Neuros plug inside the unit with a new one (same exact shape and pinouts).

I also have tried several adapters, even have a 9vdc 800ma (which is speced for the neuros II, can't find neuros 1 info). It charges, it acts normal, just that firmware screen keeps asking me to plug it in, even if it is.

Mine will blink or turn on for a few seconds, or give me an error, if the battery is nearly dead, or not plugged into the board on the backpack. This is with the power adapter hooked up. The screws are t6 torx, two at the bottom, and opens like a clamshell (careful of the 4 tabs along the top)

Maybe take out the LiOn battery out and test it with a voltmeter. Fully charged should show around 3.6-7 vdc. Anything below 3.2v is suspect.

Try charging just the backpack w/o the flash unit hooked up overnight, then plug it in and see what happens.

The connector on mine was broken, so it would not charge the unit, even if it seemed plugged in. So check that too (four solder points, positive on the left looking at the board from the front, with connector on bottom).

I've also left it on that screen plugged in overnight... and the unit is fully charged (it can run for 5-6 hours doing FM through the home stereo).

Any tips would be appreciated.

I think I have a Neuros 1, it was a company gift I gave out to my employees a couple years back, it showed up in a desk, dead a month ago. It has 2.25 firmware, and the hd was missing. I tried a Hitachi/Travelstar 40gb, and it would always try to go to the format screen, and not give me errors... but would never mount the drive. It would also blink an orange light at the bottom right corner of the LCD before going into diagnostics window.

I stuck in an older 10gb drive, and it worked (IBM 2.5) Yay!. Then I attempted numerous times to install the 2.28 firmware. I've followed the instructions to a "T", but have not had success. The firmware exists on the flash portion, and the device will ask me if I want to upgrade the firmware using the "down+play" buttons.

I formatted the NAND disk, and it wouldn't find the firmware again, so copied it back again, and tried again. It gets as far as asking me "Please Plug In Power Cable" on the neuros update screen. I've tried a 12v car adapter in the car, a 9vdc 1a adapter, and a 12vdc 2a adapter, and even an adjustable power supply sweeping from 13vdc to 8vdc (2a), and back.

The power connector on the backpack board was missing the center pin, so I replaced it by soldering an identical connecter I found off a broken USB hub board. It fits perfectly, charges perfectly, and acts normal in all other respects.

I thought these Neuros's were really cool when they came out, and have followed the company for a while (since it's near where I live). I don't want to let it die Wink

It matches the interior of my Titan Truck perfectly, orange backlight, silver flash portion and similar charcoal color backpack.

I don't have access to the original power cable, so were there any weird specs about it? I don't see how as there are only 2 conductors, and a 9-12vdc 800ma label on the backpack.

PS: Can a neuros 1 record from the line-in? Or is it only the HiSi stuff for 30 seconds?

Thanks in advance.
