My R2 replacement should be with me soon, if nobody answers in a week or so I will post something on my website.

This....

...may answer some questions. Probably best to test on a Neuros created mp4 file on your website. Would have sent something but my R2 died a while back and is off for replacement. Someone else can probably supply something.

Each time you cycle the record button a new file is created. There will be a slight delay of a few seconds between each file, this is unavoidable and common to most recording devices. Your files will be in .mp4 format and will need to be converted to quicktime so aditional software is required. Look around for software that will batch process multiple files to make life easier.

I do not use this software but have just had a look at the Pinnacle website, have you applied all the patches ?.

http://www.pinnaclesys.com/publicsite/us/Products/Consumer+Products/Home+Video/Studio+Family/Studio+version+9+Support/Software+Updates+and+Drivers/Studio+version+9/Moviebox+Deluxe+Patch.htm?mode=documents

Read the "fix" list for the latest patch, it mentions added support for DivX, Mpeg-4 as well as audio sync issues etc.

You may also consider an upgrade to V10

Looks like a nice device, the indicators on the top for remaining capacity will help and I would be interested to hear how your test goes.

24  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - Feedback & Discussion / Re: R2 Power consumption on: September 29, 2006, 07:01:46 AM
Glad to be of service.

You will no doubt be aware that the quoted capacity and actual capacity are rarely equal and is also dependant on operating temperature. However in temperate climates this is not something to worry about. Also the battery voltage will reduce according to the discharge rate and there will come a point when it will fall quite sharply as it becomes exhausted. This is a dangerous time for equipment (such as the R2) that does not have input voltage sensing that shuts off the unit when the input voltage falls below a certain point - probably around 4V.

A good quality battery pack should have this functionality built in. Another thing to consider is what happens to the current recording should the battery discharge.

I guess my point is to keep the battey fully charged when possible and keep an eye on the remaining battery level.

25  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - Feedback & Discussion / Re: Another alternative power supply.... on: September 28, 2006, 05:08:03 PM
I have just been testing one of the ITX psu's I mentioned in the previous post.

For info:

To replicate the PC power switch connect pin 14 (PS-ON) to 15 (GND). Pin 14 is a green wire on a "normal" psu. Looking at the connector with the locking tab at the top, pin 14 is the 4th pin from the left and pin 15  is the 5th pin from the left.

The Pico psu I have is NOT the automotive version and will shut down at around 13.5V. Also the 12V supply fom the psu is not regulated and is just a direct feed from the main supply - normally a 12V DC brick. The 5V supply will regulate (ie stay at 5V) until the main supply drops to around 6.5V.

Quiescent current (current consumed without a load connected) is around 65mA @ 12V

So this verson is not really suitable for automotive use. However there are several others that will work from 9-20V and include a regulated 12V output. Beware of one type that offers 6V-24V input. It is specifically designed for a motherboard that only uses 12V at around  100mA. Too low for most bullet cameras.

26  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: Video Out RCA colors? on: September 28, 2006, 01:08:22 AM
Scart is an alternate video/audio connection system primarily used in Europe.

The connections to your cable should be as follows:

4 pole connector - from body to tip

Body - Red - audio right
Next - Ground (common)
Next - Yellow - video
Tip  - White - audio left

You can check this with a simple multimeter, battery/bulb, buzzer etc. If you get this checked and it is incorrect then ask Neuros to supply new cables.

Are you using the cable supplied by Neuros ?

I ask because my R2 was shipped with scart connections and I wanted to test the unit with my dvd player RCA connectors. I used a camcorder lead but soon discovered that there are at least two ways of wiring the 4 pole 3.5mm jack plug - ie no common "standard".

I posted the details of the scart connections a month or so ago on this forum so you can check your cable quite easily.

I see no retards...

Just out of interest, do you get the same problem when using the mains adaptor instead of the bike supply ?.

Frustrating isn't it !!. Oh well at least auto record is now possible.
30  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - Feedback & Discussion / Another alternative power supply.... on: September 27, 2006, 03:10:40 AM
Something else worth considering is a plug in power supply for use on Mini ITX motherboards. There are a few types on the market and have been produced for converting 12V external brick psu's into the various voltages needed for the motherboard. They can supply +12V, +5V & +3.3V at up to 200W total so that should keep most people happy !.

Naturally a bit of work is required to hook up to something other than a motherboard but the ITX style connector is available from other suppliers and a couple of flying leads are already provided. Just remember that these units are "enabled" by the power button on a pc. You will need to replicate this link on the ITX connector using an external switch to make it work.

In the UK you can get these from :

http://www.icp-epia.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=15

They should not be hard to find in other countries.

Please note that I have not used these devices other than for PC applications.
