1  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: NO video, only audio on HDDVR TIVO: Only Records Video up to 480i resolution on: October 27, 2006, 01:37:31 PM
Although the neuros will only record 480i, that is all that composite video supports.  I used to have an HR10-250, and the problem I had was that when it was set to output anything above 480i, the HR10-250 would not send any output to the composite video jack.  It was a limitation of the IRD, not the neuros.

Good point Andrew. Regardless, the 480i limit should be upfront to avoid initial confusion for anyone trying to setup their HD video source. I still think this is a great product.  Smiley

I agree Bud, they have done a good job for what it is intended to do. And, through the treocentral.com forum, I got an inside contact with Neuros customer service, and was very impressed by the level of committment I got on my call.

However, Neuros may want to consider disclosing the HD pass through limitation up front on the Website and in the manual in a way that non-technical types will understand more specifically what they are buying, and the 480i setting required for HD video sources.

I suspect it won't pass or record HD video (anything over 480i).

Try a 480i source.

YES! That is the issue.
I switched the video output of the Directv HDDVR Tivo, a Phillips HR10-250, to 480i. This is standard-definition interlaced. The Neuros would not work on any other setting of the Tivo, namely, 480p, standard defintion enhanced, or 1080i or 1080p.

Another issue is that the widescreen size format for watching HD  at 1080i or 480i gets compressed on the recording a bit to a size that can be viewed on the a PDA or smatphone screen the size of a Treo700  screen, so people look a strectched vertically. If you change the aspect ratio to 4:3 on the Tivo, then there are vertical bars that take up more of the screen space on each side, creating an even smaller viewable area on the treo screen. Be aware of the tradeoffs in image size.

"Hey Bub, you have to "tap in" to the composite video/audio cable(s) going to the tv for input to the recorder, then use the recorder output video/audio cable(s) to the tv.

Only works on the composite (RCA) signal."

Hey Bud,
thanks for advice, but could you clarify what you mean by "tap in"?  My Tv gets video signal from HDDVR Tivo via an HDMI cable, not Composite cables [Red Blue Green]. I run the audio to my surround sound system.

So, are you saying to simply plug in the provided RCA cables in the Composite OUT from the TIVO to the AV In of the recorder pluggin into the Tivo  RCA out?

Brand new unit bought direct from Neuros website, received today.

Setup; Directv HDDVR to AV IN, AV OUT to vid input of RCA HDready Projection TV. Hear audio from TV on preview screen, but no video. Firmware is last version, .19

Tried simple recording, and got only the audio and the blank screen.

Do I have a bad unit, bad cables, or is there a known issue with either the Tivo or TV?

HELP. Searched the help forum here, did not see a similar problem.
