1  Neuros OSD / Neuros OSD - Feedback & Discussion / Re: ASF recording works great but no AVI or MPEG-4 on: November 19, 2006, 10:11:04 PM
After downloaded and installing the .27 firmware upgrade, the OSD is starting to perform.  I have recorded up to 90 minutes of programming to my 4 Gig USB thumb drive.  This was in the ASF format.  Unfortunately, recording to Mpeg-4 shuts down after about 10 minutes, but does not cause the system to reboot.  I have no clue why it chooses to do this with Mpeg-4 but is very stable with ASF.

I also noticed that the AVI choice is no longer present on the recording format window.  I am particularly interested in recording to AVI (Divx) so that I can move the file to my stand alone player.  I sincerely hope that this will again be implemented.

All in all, I am very pleased at the progress made in this release and I hope it bodes well for the future of the OSD.

I had the same problem with my MP#G-4 recording.  Turns out that it's a "knwon issue" that the MPEG-4 recording can only go for 14 minutes long before it stops.  I'm not sure why 14 minutes is the upper bound, but I'm just a lowly end user.

Were you able to play your .ASF files on a Windows PC?  I tried plying one of the ASFs I recorded on my Windows PC through Media Player 9.0, and was told that I was missing a codec.  Windows Media Player couldn't find the proper codec to download, though.  It plays well on the OSD, but not on my PC.  Any thoughts?

I had no trouble playing the .ASF files with Windows Media Player, but my system is Codec rich.

3  Neuros OSD / Neuros OSD - I need help! / Re: Arg.....OSD keeps rebooting on: November 10, 2006, 09:28:44 PM
I have been following the threads closely, and just wanted to add my experiences to the list.  Upon receiving my unit, the firmware supplied was extremely unstable, so I upgraded to the Nov 02 .23 release.  This enabled the unit to see my USB thumb drive and I was able to read and write to it after a fashion.  Short recording were sometimes successful, but randomly were out of sync with the audio.  I was primarily writing avi files at various quality settings.  The longest recording that I have made was about 15 minutes before the unit decided to reboot.

The unit has been in reboot hell from the moment it arrived.  Not being able to use the fancy remote control to turn it off, I listened to endless reboot cycles with the attendant clicking sound for most of one night before I finally pulled the power connector.  I sincerely hope that help is on the way with the next firmware release.  Perhaps these early units should have been given away to those willing to commit to working at making them perform on a minimum level before they were offered for sale.  I realize that this is a work in progress BUT, the advertising did say that the unit would be able to record successfully out of the box.

I don't want to have to return my unit.  I want it to work.  I will remain patient for a while longer.

I would be happy leaving the unit on all the time except for the constant clicking noise it makes when it goes through endless reboot cycles all night long.  This is a little annoying since I currently have the unit in my bedroom.

The remote control still is almost worthless - doesn't turn the unit on or off.
I sympathise with all your points except this one. Why do you want it to turn off? Ultimately when the software is stable, I'd be happy leaving it on all the time, saving waiting a minute for it to boot each time.

The power button on the remote turns my TV off, which I think is much handier, along with the voume buttons it saves me hunting for the TV remote for the basic functions.

The firmware is progressing, it's becoming more stable but there's still a lot to be done. It is a Gamma release after all. All you can do (aside from returning of course) is wait and see how the firmware progresses.

Hi,

I have had the OSD for a little over a week.  Upon connecting everything up for the first time, I was immediately disappointed.

1.  The remote control didn't function properly - you could not turn the OSD on or off at all.  Powering the unit down meant unplugging the power connector from the OSD.  Not very hi tech.  This needs to be fixed!  It is a terrible first impression item.

2.  Trying to use the original firmware that was loaded was an exercise in frustration.  The only mode that I could attempt a recording at was .asf.  The Mpeg-4 and AVI both failed miserable.  The audio sync was hopelessly out of sync with the video

3.  The unit rebooted at random times.

4.  My impression was that the unit was definitely not ready for release to a consumer.

..........................................

I updated the firmware to .23 (Nov 02) and was initially pleased:

I could now actually talk to my USB thumb drive and could actually record an .avi file at super fine resolution.  UNTIL the thing started re-booting again radomly.  This is so frustrating when you are trying to record a 60 minute program and the OSD decides to reboot 55 minutes into it, leaving you with a useless avi fragment.

The remote control still is almost worthless - doesn't turn the unit on or off.

I truly want this device to work and I am reluctant to return it BUT, something had better change quickly.  There is either a serious software problem or a terrible quality control issue with this device.

I will be watching the threads closely in the next few days.
