Recently, I have been unable to sych my unit (20 gig N1 USB 2.0).  As soon as it begins to initialize, after pressing the sync button, my computer instantly shuts down and reboots.  I believe the device driver is okay, because I am able to access files on my Neuros through Windows Explorer.  It synchronized fine after my last update, and I haven't made any changes since.  Its all pretty sudden/random.

However, I have been having problems with my computer and I bet they are related.  Also, I experienced this same issue when I first bought my Neuros and was running Win ME.  I never could get it to sync, so following the advice of others I upgraded my OS to Win XP.  It worked beautifully the first time.  Haven't had any major issues since, and then all of a sudden this.  Got any ideas?  Did I maybe remove a critical file I shouldn't have?

Running NSM 1.54 / Firmware 2.25.0137

Please Help.  [Sad]

interesting...

first I would like to say you made the right choice getting rid of Windows ME...its terrible.  Although XP has its problems too.

the first thing i would try is to reinstall NSM...1.2 then 1.54.

Does this happen everytime?

You may also want to try plugging your neuros into a different USB port. and maybe try just plugging in the backpack without the face too. (try this before reinstalling NSM...cause if this works you dont want to lose your song database)

if you can find out why it does this...it will be much easier to fix.

let me know what happens...

The dissapointment of poor quality lingers long after the thrill of a cheap price...

I have reinstalled NSM 3 times.  Once reverting back to an earlier version (1.25?) and then updating to the current (1.54).  No luck!

Have not tried a different USB recently, or synching just the backpack.  Will try them both when I get home today.

And yes, it happens everytime I sync.  Its very annoying!  [Sad!]

Had the same problem. After working fine syncing would crash Windows XP home. Ms troubledhooter indicated it was a "video driver" problem. Followed Windows Update web suggestions.. no luck.. reinstalled neuros ..no luck; removed little ued programs from pc ...no luck. Removed the player and tried syncing back pack only.. no luck... Tried another windows xp machine,,, no luck.. tried a rebuild no luck. Noticed that the crash was occuring after a few seconds of the sync process. Concluded that somehow a file was on the Neuros that crashed windows. Moved all of the audio files off the Unit maually. Wipped the database. Wipped the hd and file structure using Neuros Diagnostics. The Unit indicated that there was no content.  Rebooted the Pc brought the audio files back into the NSM library from the PC. Synced the unit. Something did the trick. Dont know which one of the final steps did it, But we are back to normal.

Sorry for the late follow-up...

I did the same thing, formatted the Neuros hard drive (Erased everything) and then re-synched.  Don't know how or why, but it worked.  No problems since.
