hi,

for those of you that have load the n2 with "garbage" instead of the latest stock firmware (2.28), what do you see are the advantages, and are there any problems?

i kind of want to try it out but the only benefit i see for myself is that the backlight will not be continously on when plugged in.  since the source of the backlight is leds, it shouldn't take much power at all, saving very little charge time.  if i'm wrong here, please let me know.

what made you switch and how has it turned out?

i switched over for a while, not many differences.  one thing i like was that it automatically turned off when you were charging in your car and shut off your car, and then started back up when you started your car

thanks derek,

i thought that i would try it out, but the link on sourceforge for the last version (2.26.1.7) is no longer valid.  is there another location where it can be found?

one additional thing.  with the original firmware, when i start out playing all songs in random mode, then switch over to sequential, the order is not in album hierarchy.  sequential is defined as an alphabetical listing of all songs.  the only time that sequential means track order is when i select a particular album to play.

does the garbage firmware also address this?

ideally, when i hear a song at random and i feel like listening to the entire album, i would switch the playback mode to sequential to listen to the entire album.  this is not how the stock firmware operates.

I dont know if the garbage firmware supports the feature you want or not. if you try the garbage firmware and you dont like it, you can always switch back.

Here is a page with the current releases, for some reason i could not dl garbage or bernard's stuff. You can either wait till they get fixed, or you can download the NerochiaroBranch firmware (its based on garbage with a file browers).  This firmware is pretty stable, and this page gives you info on the the releases.
