I have been recently looking to invest in an MP3 player, however, I heard some pretty shoddy things about the Neuros II from different people, one including the Wikipedia.org entry which stated

"Unfortunately, many Neuros II owners found themselves having to return their units for service many times, as the units were not very reliable. Some users went through 5 or more new units and still were not able to get a unit that worked properly, or that would work for more than 90 days. Neuros Technology, the company responsible for the production of the Neuros, has stated that this was a result of quality-control failures at the Chinese fabrication plant that produced the Neuros II, and has decided to discontinue production to ensure that no more customers will experience these troubles. Unfortunately, this has left many Neuros II customers unable to obtain new players; their only option is to continue sending in their players for costly repairs or switch to other media players, like the iPod, which was, ironically, what so many Neuros customers were trying to avoid."

Is this a true assessment? And if so, does Neuros replace them free of charge or how do they deal with it?

I'd also be interested to hear what you think about size. I know it's large, but does it fit into say, jean pockets?

Yes, Last year there was indeed a problem at the factory where the production of the Neuros II was taking place. At that time, Neuros did indeed stop all production of the units. Once the problem was properly identified, Neuros took the necessary steps and corrected the problem.  It has been over 7 months since production of the remaining units started and the problem has been solved.’

I purchased mine a bit more than a year ago and it was dead out of box and missing the USB connector for the backpack. They replaced both ASAP and it's been working with specefied parameters since then.

My Neuros II has given me perfect service, and this October will be year number 2 for me on my Neuros II. I had a couple of quirks with the software, but got that ironed out. I did it myself as I'm an electronics tech, but would see how some who are not could get frustrated with the device. I think it is more for technical oriented users than off the shelf users in my opinion. The iPod seems to be more off the shelf, with the Neuros oriented to techies.

I am writing this from my macintosh laptop, so it's not like I am anti-apple.
