Is this an issue with just my recorder or any neuros Mpeg recorder II?

I have my cable hooked up to my recorder, and then the output of the recorder hooked up to my TV. But if I just want to watch Cable and not do any recording or anything, I have to turn on the neuros recorder and put it in Preview Mode to just watch tv.

Why can't the input just short to the output when the unit is powered off?  Just like a VCR or other A/V device, where you can plug a video source into a unit's input jacks and then the video source still gets run through the output jacks of the vcr even when its turned off?

Its a shame I have to have the neuros on and put it in preview mode to just watch TV when I'm not using it, or have to unplug it and plug the video source directly into my TV when I'm not using the neuros and have it powered off.

Just my gripe.  Any plans for this to be fixed if its a problem with all neuros recorder IIs?

thanks, brad  Cool

My r2 performs the same aspects you describe here.  In fact, I posted a thread to discuss the pros & cons on running the r2 in a powered on/record preview full screen continuously.  Perhaps we should ask for your solution in the Bug/Enhancement thread.

If you have the Neuros between the cable box and the TV then you are using composite video as the input source. This is far lower quality than the RGB (?) output from your Cable box.

Assuming you have two outputs on the Cable box (Scart in Europe) then I would connect one directly to the TV and the other to the Neuros and treat it just like a VHS recorder.

This allows you to record & playback through the Cable box and power down the Neuros when not in use.

If there is only 1 connection on the Cable box then buy a cheap Scart or video switch box to bypass the Neuros when not in use.

thanks dbadave and dongle

I just wanted to confirm I wasn't the only one seeing no pass through working.
It appears from reviewing the webinfo on the new OSD which I just read about last night , it will have pass through so that will be great.

In the meantime until OSD is out I will probably need to just get a cheap switch box to get around the issue, really overall it was just a minor gripe I had, really the only one I have with the recorder II for my use, it was just something I expected out of the box when I bought it.

The recorder II is overall a great product and I'm a happy customer I just hope their newer versions will have a pass through for inputs to outputs when powered off.

Yes, the Neuros OSD has a pass through mode. A lot of the requests we could not implement on the RII have been implemented on the Neuros OSD. Your feedback matters Wink
