Neuros OSD Playback Settings

You can play back many different kinds of videos on your Neuros OSD. This page explains the kinds of videos that can be played back, in the following sections:

What kinds of videos can I play back?

.MP4:
Video codecs supported: MPEG-4 Simple Profile
Audio codecs supported: AAC (MPEG-4 audio), MP3

.AVI:
Video codecs supported: DivX 3.11 (max resolution CIF:352x288), DivX 4.x, DivX 5.x, Xvid
Audio codecs supported: MPEG-1/2/2.5 Layer 3(MP3), AC-3

.ASF:
Video codecs supported: MPEG-4 Simple Profile
Audio codecs supported: MPEG-1/2/2.5 Layer 3(MP3), AC-3

.MOV:
Video codecs supported: MPEG-4 Simple Profile
Audio codecs supported: AAC (MPEG-4 audio)

.FLV:
Video codecs supported: H263
Audio codecs supported: MP3

.WMV:
Video codecs supported: WMV9
Audio codecs supported: WMA

.3GP:
Video codecs supported: H.263, MPEG-4 Simple Profile
Audio codecs supported: AAC (MPEG-4 audio), AMR (soon)

I want to play a video, but am not sure what format it is in. How do I find out?

We highly recommend installing VLC as a media player on your PC. This is a powerful open source media player that will play pretty much any file you will throw at it. It plays more files formats that Windows Media Player, Quicktime or Realplayer.

Here is how you can get video information with VLC and QuickTime:

Using VLC

1. Open your video file with VLC
2. Click the the View tab
3. Select the "Stream and Media Info" option
4. Click on the "Advanced Information" tab

Stream 0 will give you the video codec information. Stream 1 will give you the audio codec information

Using QuickTime

1. Open your video file with QuickTime
2. Click the the Window tab
3. Select the Movie Inspector option

The Format section will give you the video and audio codec information respectively.


Match the results of this software test against the table above to see if you will be able to play your videos. For example, H.264 does not appear in the table above, so if your video is compressed with H.264 (a.k.a. AVC or Advanced Video Codec), the Neuros OSD will not be able to play it.
