I too am looking forward to the N3. I have filled up my 20GB NII and am not comfortable with opening it up and putting a bigger hard drive in so I wait for the N3 with a larger drive. In the mean time I did check out the apple Nano and it is a sweet piece of equipment. Amazing how small and light it is.

I'm more surprised at the prices for those things. I thought they'd be more expensive since the Flash memory for it wouldn't be cheap for such large capacities.
It'd be best to go to a store like Best Buy and play with a demo unit before getting one. I personally am not a huge fan of the wheel, but many others like it. |

I wonder if the Neuros developers will look into making a slimmer flash based Neuros after they finish the N3?

| Really? That's too bad. The PocketPlayer seems like it would've been pretty cool. Though there was a picture of another player on DAPReview that used the same casing and it was extremely ugly. |

You may want to search for "nano" and "scratches", it is getting really bad press and Apple was forced to admit a mistake. Aparrently, they went cheap with the casing composite and it scratches very easy. Entire BLOGS have been created for Nano owners to vent. I read one account of a man that scratched his simply by removing the scratch proptector film (ironic). When he used his cotton shirt to wipe off what he thought was a smudge, it scratched even worse.
This is sad. I happen to like the wheel design and love Apple (or any company that exposes the sham of microsoft).

| So you're saying that the Nano is softer than cotton? That's pretty funny. You might be able to safely use a microfiber cloth to clean the screen. |

Or do what I did with my Neuros. I got a pack of the screen protectors sold for Palms and trimmed it to size.
Best solution would be stuff that used to be sold as "marguard" it is lexan (polycarbonate) plastic with a thin glass coating for scratch resistance.

Actually, to correct your information, Apple used the same casing material that is on the 4th generation iPod. The mistake/problem Apple admitted to was a problem where screens were cracking, not scratching:
“This is a real but minor issue involving a vendor quality problem in a small number of units,” Schiller told MacCentral. “In fact, this issue has affected less than 1/10 of 1 percent of the total iPod nano units that we’ve shipped. It is not a design issue.”

I'm a fan of any good product. I just want to correct the misinformation.
Edit: Here's some more information on the Wall Street Journal: http://ptech.wsj.com/archive/mailbox-20051006.html |

from that wall street journal entry it seems there could be more of a widespread problem. He may be trying to delay the accusation to keep initial sales up. Also, how does the Mac rep know how many are problematic. If he is only going by the customers that have registered complaints that may represent 1/10th of 1% of the people with problems.
Just a thought...
When I was a kid my mom used to tell me that curiosity killed the cat...What she forgot to tell me was that it also discovered the cat, invented the lightbulb, and forged the Neuros |
