I'm using the Neuros with the 256 MB flash memory, no HD. After I unplug the charger when it's done, the unit still shows the "battery charging" icon. When I turn it off, it shows the battery charging screen, as if it were still plugged into the charger. The only way to turn it off completely is to remove it from the backpack, which I guess is ok for now. But I can't tell how much charge is on it anymore, if any.
What happened? Is the unit broken? Or is the charger bad?

Evan

try blowing out the plug hole with compressed air. might be some junk blocking the sensor.

I have had the same problem with my fathers unit. I thought at first it was a firmware problem, but after calling Neuros support we found out that it was some sort of hardware problem or something. The weird thing is that it worked fine for a while and then one day it said it was always charging.

Unfortunately, i have no real solution for you. When we called support they told us that they had had this problem before and they were unsure of the cause and had no fix for it. They were very polite and offered my father a refund since the unit did not perform as advertised, but he kept it. I cant quite remember if this worked or not but i think in the end we switched the unit into mV mode to get a better reading. this is done by pressing down on the joystick and switching the unit to lock at the same time. you will notice that the battery is now displayed in mV. This will give you a better approximation of how much battery you have left. I forget the numbers, but if you charge and deplete the battery a few times you will be able to find the corrosponding mV values with battery life.

also, apparently this problem is only specific to the 256mb flash units. I would call Neuros support anyway to see if they have fixed this problem since when i called.

sorry i dont have a better solution,

When I was a kid my mom used to tell me that curiosity killed the cat...What she forgot to tell me was that it also discovered the cat, invented the lightbulb, and forged the Neuros

This happened to my 20GB Neuros HD unit back in February. I sent it in and got it back fixed very quickly. From my understanding, the unit has a little switch on the inside of the jack that will tell the unit that something is plugged in to charge it. The Neuros has no idea if anything is really charging it. The switch may have broke or become stuck in your case.
