I had the same thing happen to mine.

Remove the unit from any wall socket or anything. If it's frozen and won't shut down, press the up and play button at the same time. Wait a couple seconds and then press 1, 5, and play (and hold it until screen lights up) at the same time to boot into its diagnosis mode.

Once there, go into the NAND options. Select Revive Bad Blocks, and confirm you want to do this. Wait until it finishes. Then select Format NAND afterwards and confirm. Now, go back to the first screen and select exit. You will be taken to the main menu. At this point you might get an error or it might tell you that it needs to be turned off. Turn the player off, then turn it on again. It should hang for a few moments, but when it boots back up, it should be fine. Your music will not be affected by this.

Next time you connect the unit to your PC, it should synchronize - and work like a charm.

So far I'm really enjoying it. It no longer lags on certain songs, and plays everything at good quality. The only thing is that I might have to open it later on down the road to boost the radio receiver and transmitter. Both are a little weak, but work just about as well as any iPod alternative for the time being.
