Hi my name is Chris Church I am a sound engineer these are the things I think this unit needs from a audio point of view

1- AUDIO LEVEL INPUT CONTROL FOR ADJUSTING AUDIO LEVELS TO MAXIMIZE SIGNAL TO NOISE RATIO

2- AUDIO LEVEL INDICATORS WHEN RECORDING

3- A WAY TO CHECK HOW MUCH HARD DRIVE SPACE IS LEFT WITH OUT A COMPUTER

4- SUPPORT FOR WAV FILE FORMAT

5- A CONNECTOR BOX THAT MATES WITH THE TOP OF THE 442 SO YOU DONT NEED CABLES TO PLUG THINGS IN

6- A WAY OF CHANGING NAMES OF FILES ON THE 442 WITH OUT A COMPUTER

7- BETTER QUALITY BREAK OUT CABLES MAYBE JUST A SHORT ADAPTOR THAT SITS ON TOP OF THE 442 INSTED OF A MILE LONG CABLE

8- IF YOUR GOING TO USE CABLES INSTED OF A BREAK OUT BOX MAKE THEM RIGHT ANGLE SO THEY DONT STICK OUT OF THE UNIT LIKE A SORE THUMB

9- DO ALL OF THESE THINGS AND YOU WILL HAVE AN OUTSTANDING AUDIO PRODUCT AS WELL AS A GREAT VIDEO PRODUCT A TRULY MULTIMEDIA DEVICE

I'm not an audio engineer, but I also think the above two suggestions are very important, and not just for audio file, either.
