Just got the MPEG4 Recorder 2 and am having fun playing with it.
One question I have is why it seems to automatically split files when I'm recording movies? I have a 1Gig CF card in the recorder and it split a movie file at around 809meg (roughly 2 hours into the 2:15 movie). Is this hardwired into the firmware or is there a setting that I just have not found yet to stop this behaviour?
I freshly formatted the CF card in the recorder prior to recording the movie.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Check out the quick set-up field. You probably have it set up at 2 hours (I think it is teh default stte-up). If you want to record for a longer time, you have to change it. Also note that there is limit of 2GB for size of teh recorder files (due to FAT 32).

The max file size for Fat32 under Win XP is 4GB. Why would it stop recording at 2GB? I don't understand that. I was told that if I use a 4gb microdrive that the max file size (2gb)is a limitation of the drive itself - not the recorder. I was also told that when using a 4gb compact flash drive, that limitation is not there! They are both using FAT32! Why would a 'microdrive' be limited to 2GB and a 'flash' drive not have that limitation? Everything I have ever read is that the max file size for FAT32 is 1 byte less than 4gb. Can anyone explain this???

They are some contradictory data, but you are correct, the limit file size for XP FAT32 is 4GB. I imagine most microdrives are actually using FAT16 since it optimized for smaller HDD with a simplier file structure.

I have a Hitachi 4GB Mircodrive that uses the FAT32 file structure. I still can only get a 2GB file out of the MPEG recorder 2! There must be someone at the company who can give a 'difinitive answer' as to 'why' there is a 2GB file size limatation. This is NOT a limitation imposed by the FAT32 file system nor the microdrive - it's a 'problem' with the recorder. I would not have ordered the recorder if I had known that the max file size was 'only' 2GB. I certainly would not have ordered a 4GB Mircodrive either! I can return the recorder but not the $200 Microdrive! I was also 'told' by TS that the '2GB limitation' is not present in the 'Flash' drives - only on the 'mircodrives!' Can anyone confirm that there is some kind of 'difference' between using a 'flash' drive and a 'mirco' drive??? Thanks for any 'accurate' info anyone can give.

Hi, I also have the same problem. It always splits files once it gets to 1hr and 59 mins. The time I set it up to record is for 2 hrs and 45 mins. I am saving to a memory stick duo card 1GB (for the psp). I checked the quick set up menu in the recorder menu and it is set at "off" as per FJ suggestion. What is still causing this problem?
Thank you.

We are currently working on a solution for the 1 hour 59 min and 59 sec file size limit for the Recorder 2. Our firmware team is in the process of developing new firmware for the Recorder 2. We will post the update on our website as soon as we have more information.
We apologize for the inconvenience. We are hard at work developing a solution.
