Although this is very preliminary, neuros.tv now offers a chat/file transfer service on the LINK.

If you have a registered name on neuros.tv then you have a registered name for chat

From the desktop (minimize firefox)  applications >> internet >> Pidgin Internet Messenger and populate the account with your username and neuros.tv as the server (as shown in the below screen shot)  then add buddies (make sure to append neuros.tv to their neuros.tv username) and you should be good to go.  One particuliarly nice thing about this is that there is an auto accept plug-in for pidgin that allows you to select buddies for whom pidgin will automatically accept files from.

This makes for a very handy way to xfer files that are just one to one (ie home movies and the like).  I love this feature for sending movies of the kids to the grand parent's LINK because it's just automatic, they don't have to do anything and new videos just show up.  I've long struggled with an easy way to get files to them (typically I just put them on a thumb drive and sneakernet them to them) and this solved my problem.  Hopefully one of yours as well.  Obviously my name on here is JoeBorn so feel free to say hello.

It's early, there are already a list of known bugs but would love to get your feedback on it.

This is actually really cool. I will check this out when I get my new USB drive and get set up.

Do you think it may be a good idea to "reserve" few function keys to bring some applications to the front?
This way we can reserve let's say F11 for pidgin.  People will not have to minimize firefox.  More user-friendly imho

Bagster,
I agree... Key bindings are very important to the usability of any system and there is no easy way to centralize the various programs bindings and hot keys. Ideas?

I agree on the key mappings and I'm all ears for suggestions.

if anyone could register on neuros.tv and add me as a buddy, I'd like to confirm this is working.  Its supposed to send me a request, but I'm not sure it's working properly.

I'm JoeBorn@neuros.tv

Thanks.

uncovered a bug BTW, Bug 4883[url] it still works, but it seems to ask for authorization more than is really necessary and it can become a bit confusing.

.. and I've requested to add you.  I'm mattjhsn@neuros.tv

It took me a few minutes in pidgen to figure out which protocol to use and how to fill in the blanks (It's "XMPP","mattjhsn", and" neuros.tv").

Hey guys, go ahead and add me too.  mammlouk@neuros.tv

I'm checking it out on my laptop using synapse as the client since I have been using KDE 4.2 a lot lately.
