I am not sure if you'll find many people on this forum with a competitor's product Smiley

Personally, I have two different type of recorders and each one has its pros and cons to use as a race cam recorder:

The Neuros 2+ (Pros: MPEG4, SD and CF cards. Cons: Loses the video if accidental power off, No Screen, No Battery, Remote required, no USB) and other one is a RCA PMP X2400 (Pros: Screen, built-in battery, no remote, USB port Cons: Records AVI Only, CF cards only)

The one I use the most is the Neuros 2+, it's a great product.

SMRT, et all
I am using the Neuros 2+ with an Archos PMA400. Unfortunately, I have not yet got them talking to each other.  Sad

I really like both. I trust the Neuros 2+ to survive long distance bike (human powered) tours with it's lack of moving parts and removable media. (Given that it is being used in race cars gives me some hope... obviously it can withstand higher forces than what I am using it for... however, a bike dishes out a different kind of punishment: tiny vibrations that eat away at anything moving; ever so slowly... 6-8 hrs/day... 6-7 days a week, for months on end) I am using it with an 8G Transcend card, so more than enough storage to record a full day video without futzing with media, batteries, starting/stopping etc. I just turn it on and record everything. My hope is to find a way to use the PMA to then edit the painfully long stream into a few 20-30 second clips. Might sound amazingly boring, however, my "bike" is a Dutch Velomobiel, a fully faired trike that is solely human powered. It generates much more interest than my personality really cares for... for example, on my last little journey, a 64 day loop in middle amerika I had 27 interactions with "the law", 3 yahoos that succeeded in running me off the road, first time experiences with dogs running the other way, a gos-hawk that followed shadowed (led) me for well over 60K...
I like the PMA for it's WI-FI and usb-lan connect-ability, text/blog editing, usb GPS (hack) and to play music while I ride... with external speakers.

Unfortunately, while the PMA has no problem recording composite A/V from any of the cameras/mikes that I use, and works fine off the quad processor, It will not record from the Neuros 2+... I have no idea why.

Any input or ideas are much welcomed.

As long as the Archos plays MP4 files with AAC audio, there shouldn't be any problems.  If anything, a program to convert the files will be the next resort.

Yes, I use it with a 604 wifi. You need to purchase the "podcast" codecs from Archos online, or you can recode to WMV or Divx/Xvid/mp3 using MediaCoder (free opensource). The R2 is an EXCELLENT accompaniment to the Archos especially if you want to archive your DVD video library in accordance with FairUse.

If you decide to buy the codecs from Archos, use YAMB 1.6 to split/join/trim the recorder files (free opensource). Use VLC (free opensource) to preview the video and the timeline will tell you where to edit. You can edit by time.

Bottom line is YES the R2 is a valuable missing link for Archos owners.

I've used the R2 with my Archos 504, infrequently however.   I have the recording cradle for the Archos, so that took away some of the need for the R2.

The file created on the Archos, while recording from a DVD, has DRM in it. It will only playback on the device itself, nowhere else. Not even on the tv out cable.

Is this not also true of the R2?
Everything that is recorded on the R2 has some sort of Analog "protection" incorporated... can anyone prove otherwise?
