Hi,

I was wondering if I could subscribe to podcasts using RSS on the Neuros OSD?  That would be really cool.

I was at LugRadio Live yesterday and the Neuros OSD looked like a really cool device Smiley

Hey nashienet,
this is one of those queries which has a 2 part answer:

Can the OSD? Yes. Does it? No, until someone writes the software to do it. It shouldn't be hard, you need simply to parse some RSS - plenty of open source parsers out there, and run wget to download the latest podcast to some storage the OSD has access to.

You'll see by looking through these forums all the ideas that people have for the OSD, and it can perform most of them if someone takes the time to implement the ideas in the software.

When Project Lobster is up and running, it'll be even easier to add such features.

Assuming I am on a static IP address, would it be possible to connect to my Neuros OSD from another location and share some of my files from an external hard drive?

Is this functionality already included or is this something that might be added in the future?

Yes you can with telnet, drives physically attached via the USB of the OSD get automaticlly mounted as long as they are Fat32 or ext2
You can also get ftp running on the OSD. You will find posts about setting that up on this forum.

I use tera term pro and have great luck with it. Small footprint and works perfectly on a windows machine, and I use Putty on a linix box. Transfering files is a snap.

But to share your files from your network you will have to mount them from the OSD, also you will find several posts about that on this forum. and it can be done when the OSD boots via a script file that will have to be created and put on a read/write section of the OSD filesystem. (/mnt/OSD)

This thing is pretty damn functional now but has plenty more being developed.

Again, this *can* be done, but currently isn't implemented.

There is a simple FTP server available which will work on the OSD, and give access to any files on your USB HD. But this is very insecure, more of a "it can be done" job.

Also at the moment, there is open telnet access to the OSD, so it's not safe to plug it into the outside world just yet. SSH access should be soon here. Then a SFTP server isn't hard to get going, probably the best way to access your files remotely.
