i am thinking about buying a neuros and i wanted to know if i can put downloaded bit torrent movies on a usb hard drive and play it from the nerous on my tv

Depends on the format they are in. H.264 encoded movies don't seem to work. Stick to XVIDs if possible. And avoid more than 2 channel sound files as well. You could always try and re-encode the files you download if they don't work as well. I can't seem to find a good answer on that though.

Just for the sake of argument, we're going to presume you mean public domain or properly distributed movies via Bit Torrent (such as their paid service, or other legitimate dealers.)

Like tkos, the encoding of the movie makes some difference.  >2 audio channels can confuse the DSP (it tries to decode all the channels, and that overloads it.  A fix is being worked on.) and some codecs aren't supported.  However, XVID, DIVX, MPEG4, MPEG2, and a few other codecs are supported, and should work well.  (H264 works, but only for teeny-tiny resolutions.)
