Yes, as I said in my last post, we have a firmware update that will create files compatible with Sony's new firware v2.7. We have been testing it for a few days. We are doing our best to release the firmware ASAP, but we have to thoroughly test its stability. We are using the beta version of the new firmware to demo video playback of files created with the recorder on the PSP with FW 2.7 at E3.
We added new features (QCIF recording resolution) and a higher encoding bit rate option for the iPod. Because of the higher number of options, we are working on the user interface to help users choose the right setting based on the handheld they will playback the video on.
As for conversion software, we are looking at different tools. We are comparing a few to the open source conversion tool offered by core codec. Based on our tests, Core Codec's tool (http://corecodec.org/projects/vemode/) is as easy to use as they come (it has a preset conversion for the PSP) and as fast as most fee-based conversion tools.

AVC (or h.264) is becoming more popular because of the file size, they are on average 30% smaller than straight MPEG4 files. Realtime encoding to h.264 on a unit that is not a PC is quite a challenge (a PC has a lot of more power than a Recorder 2). The other reason to stick to the current MPEG4 format, is that most portable video players (aside from the PSP and iPod) can not play back h.264. In short, realtime h.264 encoding on a unit as small as Neuros Recorder, is a little further away(the next generation of chips will be able to do it).

Yes. We are testing a firmware upgrade for the Recorder as we speak. With this new firmware files created by the Recorder 2 will play directly on the PSP without any conversion step: Record, put the memory stick in your PSP and enjoy the show. But we also want to come up with a solution for users who have or will update their PSP to v2.7 and still want to watch videos recorded until now. These files will most likely  have to be converted.

We are actually testing a few conversion tools. Your suggestions are more than welcome. Our goal is to find  a simple and efficient way to get it done. Based on our tests so far, quite a few free softwares are as good (if not better at times) as their commercial counterparts. I am testing the Core Codec (the makers of TCPMP aka Betaplayer) open source VEMoDe tool and it is very nice. Fast, it offers many different conversion formats (including one for the PSP of course) and is very easy to use. If you want to test it go to http://corecodec.org/projects/vemode/

Put your TV on the Video Channel (you could have 2 or 3 of them), the On Screen Menu will not appear on the regular TV channel. If that does not work out with your scart cable, try to use the RCA cables (great idea to send us pictures of your set up). Connect the AV out of the Recorder to your TV RCA sockets. Put your TV on the right video channel and you should see the recorder menu.
Once you get this working, connect the AV in of the Recorder to the AV Out of your Skybox using the RCA cables as well. I am not quite sure why you have issues with the scart cables, but RCA should work fine.

When you hit the TV/Lock button, does the screen go black?
Try this: get your TV on the right video channel (you should have a TV/ Video button on your TV remote), and press the TV/Lock button. If you don't see anything on your TV press the TV/Lock button a few times. If your video out cable is connected correctly, it should work out. If you still don;t see anything, call us at 1 866 5 NEUROS.

The volume is basically set at the source. If the volume of the source is low, the recording will be low as well. There is no amplification during a recording (it leads to distortions). You will see that if you record from a clear channel, the volume of your recording will be much louder.

First thing first, back up DVDs you own only. Secondly, if you want to do so, copy the analog signal, this way you don not break any encryption. Many DVDs have an encryption you have to break to get to the digital file, and that is illegal. You have DVDs without encryption, but they are not the majority. Commodore's owners will not be eligible for the upgrade. Only Neuros 442 owners who bought a new unit from one of our qualified retailers will.

The volume of the sound for the recording depends on the source as much as on the recorder. I am recording from different sources and I am getting good sound quality and it is definitely loud enough (sound is better if I record from a clear channel with my cable box, so channels have a lower sound output than others). As mentioned in the post above, amplifying the sound of the source is a possibility but will lead to some distortions.
What sources have you been testing? Is there a difference from one source to another or the recording level for the sound or is it the same at all time?

Try to update your video playlist and see if that has any effect. We have not been able to reproduce this locking problem yet, but I will keep you posted.

The Auto Record feature works once for now. After one recording it goes back to the OFF default setting. I sent a request to our engineers and they are looking at it. I can not tell you when it will be done, but I can tell you they are working on it.
