Hi all, I just got my neuros the other day, and after fighting with various Linux programs to get some files on it (NDBM rocks!) I finally got some oggs going. The problem is that the play back goes scratchy and seems to slow down at certain points. All the oggs are encoded at 128kb (grip uses kb rather than a q setting) which sounds lower than what most people are running on their neuros, but I can't really tell since all the posts I've found on the subject in the forum relate to the q setting.
I'm not sure if this is a Neuros II issue (I have the 128MB, not the 256MB model, so I don't think it's that particular problem) or what. I have 2.21.0137 firmware right now, so maybe this is a known issue fixed in a beta firmware? Would someone who hasn't had problems with ogg playback let me know what bitrate their files are at? Since the only real info I've found on ogg peeling seems to say that it's not done yet, I don't really want to re-rip over 200 albums just to get them to play right :-( |

Hmm. Well, with dbPowerAmp (whatever their specific version of the Ogg Vorbis codec is) at q6 I get an average of 170-190 kbps, which all play fine for me. (It's hard to put an average on a q level... that's the point, is that it isn't a kbps setting)
You might call support on Monday and have them listen to it over the phone. They might have some hints for you, if somebody doesn't pop up here with a suggestion.
Actually, I guess you could take a peek at this, and see if it helps... http://n.php-help.com/nand |

| It seems like my problem isn't really new. I found this: http://www.neurosaudio.com/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3209 which seems to describe my problem. When I start up a new song it slows a bit and I hear the hard drive clicking. When it slows down in the middle of a song I can hear the hard drive click right before it goes back to normal. I think it's the same issue. |

It doesn't sound like a bad sort of clicking. It's pretty consistent overall, and it's not continuous. It honestly sounds like any normal hard drive reading data. It seems like it's a cacheing issue or something. It seems to have to re-read the hard drive at certain random times, and I'm not sure why. I'll try calling support tomorrow though. I've tried re-formatting the hard drive and the NDBM to no avail. |

| i had the exact same problem as both you and the person whose topic you earlier linked to. i just sent it back. i noticed it happened on average for the first 4-6 seconds with headphones and up to 10 with myfi. it happened more when i skipped to the next track instead of listening to the whole thing. i hope it works this time around because it is as annoying as hell!! please post anything new you find out. |
