I am about to buy Neuros II 30GB, I have most of my songs in Ogg files, bitrate 160, and I want to know if anyone else is using b160 Oggs if it skips on MiFi and when it is just played. Thanks

p.s. I use Linux (Debian sarge) where I have all of my OGGs, what program (graphic one) is used to sync Neuros? Are there any problems? And how many songs can you sync at once? one by one? or whole folder with OGGs??

i have about 180 ogg files that are 192's and have had no problems at all with playing them...i have heard of some people having problems but not me. NDBM, positron and sorune all work with linux..
you can go here to see NDBM:

http://neurosdbm.sourceforge.net/

or to see a list of what all the sync managers have and which ones work with linux...go to the faq on the same page:

http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=24082&group;_id=83367

*i have yet to install NDBM on my linux but i run it on windows and it works well...

wow thats strange..unless they sent you, somehow, a better version of Neuros I've been wanting Neuros since last year, when they still had the old one, then I forgot about it, checked the site later, and saw the new version..which is definetly better..do you know around what month will be Neuros III coming out? 'Cause I am sure, it will be more stable with OGG files. I have many of them, I rip CDs into OGGs now, and I just really want my Neuros (when I buy it) to work with the OGGs, I dont want any problems..I am glad there is at least some Mp3/OGG player that plays OGG..I dont know of any other..ehehe

if you have any other questions feel free to ask

In my experience, Q6 ogg files with have occasional millisecond skips (or just moments of silence, not sure) while playing back over Neurocast (formerly known as Myfi). In the few times I've listened to it on headphones, I don't recall there being any skips.

Despite this, no other player can play my entire collection of music and broadcast it to my car stereo. The good far outweighs the bad with this minor glitch.

I just bought the 30GB one, and it is still processing for the past 5 days why does it take so long...ehh

well...I dont use Q6 or the other numbers ffor my ogg files..I use 160 bitrate, and my brother said they should work fine on MiFi, because it only seems like people with Q6 have problems with it..but who knows, I will check it once I get it hopefully soon.....

Any particular reason you are specifying a single bit rate rather than variable with Q values?

oh yay! Got my Neuros today...and I have another question..I bought the 30GB as one piece, but there is a backpack release button thing on my Neuros...I dont know, but it seems like you can part Neuros and the backpack..but I dont want to touch it and destroy it..so I just wanna know, those of you who got the whole Neuros as in one piece, do you have the backpack release thing there?

Don: my brother just made me convert all my CDs into 160bitrate. and it seems like people have problems with Q6, Q7. etc...so I was just asking if people have oggs in 160bitrate, if it gives troubles on NeuroCast or no..

That little release button is there so you can remove the backpack from the control unit (part with the screen). This allows you to upgrade to a higher capacity hard drive backpack or a smaller backpack with only a battery in it (so the player becomes a flash-based one). You can look in the Neuros Store for a list of the available backpacks.

Most people in the know avoid setting fixed bitrate for Vorbis.
The codec simply wasn't designed to be straightjacketed like that.

Specify a maximum bitrate or something if you must. But unless you have a REALLY GOOD reason (I'm not using ogg, I can't, I must use a container that cannot handle VBR. Not a great reason, only one I can imagine), use Q levels for Vorbis.
