I have a Neuros 20GB 2.0 on order. After checking out this site, I settled on using dBpower AMP to rip files to OGG @ Q5. In antisipation, I started ripping albums today to a file created by dBpower AMP. dBpower AMP is finding info online and tagging each file that is known. Does what I'm doing sound OK so far? I don't want to ripp tonns of files only to have to delete them and start over.
Then, when I finally get the Neuros, all I need to do is use the NSM to sync and load the music files right?
Thanks for any help. You guys are true enthusiasts to this machine. I hope to learn more.

You are doing it right. However, you may just consider using only teh Java NDBM - I just went with that, I believe it's faster. Q5 should be good, but any more, beware: http://www.neurosaudio.com/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4516
Also, are you ripping each album to multiple or just one file?
Congrats! |

Thanks for the confirmation.
I'm bad with acronyms, what is NDBM?
Is there a way to rip faster? Ripping is at 6x-8x "realtime" so the program says. Any way to do this faster without causing problems? I have an old AMD 1700+ with 768MB of ram and a 32X rom drive running XP home.
I read that going above Q6 can cause problems, that's why I stuck with Q5. Thanks for the heads-up though.
I'm ripping most albums as seperate songs, not one file. I do expect the gaps. Thanks for the remider though. I do want to rip certain albums as one file (like Pink Floyd) so there are no gaps. |

you can use NDBM or you could also try Sorune which can be used by just downloading the .exe file instead of needing the java runtime enviornment installed.

So Sorune is just for uploading, organizing files, Etc on the Neuros, not to rip files? I DL'd it and played with it a bit.
Thanks again for the help. |

yes, sorune and ndbm are both sync managers for the neuros like NSM, but they are a lot faster and usually more reliable too.

Great! Thanks. Reliability is a good thing.
I love the support this forum provides. I was pretty much sold on the Neuros after reading the reviews but the more I read the forums, the more convinced that I picked the right audio player. |

Did you download the Power Pack for dBPowerAMP? It let's you rip to RAM and convert from there. It's free to try for the first 30-days. This might speed up your conversion a bit.
I'm using a 2.2GHz P4 system and it takes right around 4 minutes for an average length CD using a 40X CD-ROM drive. |
