Absolutely mindblowing band - Coheed & Cambria. Been a longtime fan ever since they started. Got a little bit pissed when MTV decided to start playing one of their most mediocre songs, which everyone seems to like, but then starts regarding CoCa as a stupid teenybop band. Which it is everything but. All (2) albums are concept albums, which tie together again and again in one story. 2 other albums are planned, with one being a double album. At the release of the 4th, the entire story will be complete.

The story is just a minimal thing though. If you're a really hardcore fan you'll get into it, the rest just appreciate the good tunes.

Also, good metal band - H.I.M.

Go take a look.

Well, besides plugging my own band (Mad Apple, we've got a site on Lulu that I intend to update with FLAC and remove the Oggs.) another good one no one's heard of is 2nd Half http://www.2ndhalf.cc/.

Local to my area, their live show is just amazing. The music is above-par too.

As with everyone, I am a fan of many types of music. This list barely covers the full extent of my musical likings, but here we go.

Godspeed You Black Emperor - Really awesome band from Montreal. Strange, errie, avant gard music. Well worth checking out. http://www.brainwashed.com/godspeed/

Tool (of course)(I know everyone has heard of them, but I can not leave them off of one of my lists)

Murder By Death (Cool concept based music. Awesome sounds... They have a CD named "Like the Exorcist, but More Break Dancing".... if that isn't awesome, I don't know what is)

23 Skidoo (Weird experimental drum (like bongo drums)+jazz based music. Interesting. Awesome.)

Boards of Canada - Electronica super kings.
Dave Brubeck
Diga Rhythm Band (Awesome Awesome eastern band. tabalas, bongos, zylophones, etc)
Hooverphonic
Lo-Fidelity Allstars
Mindless Self-Indulgence (Amazing punk/techno/industrial/ADD band from NY)
Peaches - One Canadian (I think) girl who does all the music for her "band". All she does is sing about sex. Interesting stuff.
The Beta Band
Zakir Hussain (famous tabla player)
Bjork (If you don't know of her... you should)
NIN
The Polyphonic Spree (Weird Beatles-esque hippy, super happy cult (22 members in the band))

As I said earlier, there are more, but that gives you an idea.

I agree about HIM. It is great band with an original style. Think of it as metal that even girls will like.

16 Horsepower-This now-defunct band made Dark Americana/Folk music.
Devotchka-These friends of 16 HP make similar music, but with a Gypsy/Mexican twist.
Dissecting Table-Extremely dark and terrorizing electronics from a Japanese madman. Percussive and demonic.
Techno Animal-Vastly experimental and disturbing electro-dub from Justin Broadrick(Godflesh) and Kevin Martin(God, Ice). Check out The Brotherhood of the Bomb featuring some of the most talented from the Hip Hop underground.
Opeth-Death metal for those of us without 666 tatooed on our foreheads. At times melodic and soothing, and at times crushing and massive.
Robert Belfour-This bluesman wasn't discovered until late in his life. He makes traditional backwoods acoustic blues, which can be hard to find these days.
Dalek Dark underground hip hop with turntables.
The Tossers-Angry Irish-tinged punk from before Flogging Molly made it safe for everyone. Think The Pogues meets Rage Against The Machine.
