This is just more of a funny occurence, one of my favorite things to do is just run all tracks on random. I have a 20gb unit and have it a little over half filled with a WIDE variety of music from Ali Akbar Khan to The Ziggens, I've added a couple of genres too. So WHY when I do this does my Neuros keep finding the two Isaac Hayes records I put on. Every sesson at least five Hayes tracks pop up, It really seems to love the Black Moses... can you blame it?

Neuros top ten lately:
1. THE MISFITS: American Psycho and Famous Monsters w/ some random tracks from elsewhere 2. MADNESS: One step Beyond, Madness and Wonderful (don't kid yourself, Everyone Loves Madness!!) 3. Karsh Kale: Realize (Indian techno type stuff) 4. Sublime: 40oz To Freedom (original issue. One of my first, just the best) 5. Carl Orff: Carmina Burana (classical Opera with a great opener) 6. Guided by Voices: Just a Bunch of albums (As We Go Up, We Go Down is just a good song) 7. Good Riddance: Ballads From The Battlefield (Just makes me happy) 8. Stephen Malkmus: All albums (guy from Pavememt) 9. Zakir Hussain (Trad. Indian, mostly drums) 10. Radiohead: Ok Computer (everyone seems to agree to this one, smart people)
Along with just about anything from Stubborn Records, NYC.

I run all my 10 gigs on random too.
I wrote this months ago, and haven't had time to post it, but here goes.
Music That Matters To Me
Songs that come to mind:
Strange Days – John Lennon Landslide – Fleetwood Mac Rusted Root – Beautiful people Which I was turned onto by Soul Coughing’s lead man who has now gone solo. He’s got some stuff for free download from mp3.com that is quite good.
Call me mainstream, but I still say Nirvana’s Mtv Unplugged and his other album by Hole (don’t sue me, I’m just kidding I’m just kidding) Live through this. Although Courtney Love showed extraordinarily bad taste by releasing the album one week after Kurt’s suicide, it’s quite an album – experiment to try at home: if you’re a girrrl and you like to sing like a rocker, crank the volume and try to sing along with Take Everything at the top of your lungs, try it, I challenge you, it’s damn hard. It’s too bad she stopped singing because she could really pull of the punk vocalist thing.
Flaming lips –Waiting for Superman and Be my Head – from the soft Bulletin and Satellite, respectively. Calapsonians by Taj Mahal and the Hula Blues Band Jesus, Sublime’s version of No woman No cry brought me to tears not too long ago. Anything by Tom Waits but I like some of the newer stuff, like Bone Machine and Mule Variations
All tomorrow’s parties by velvet underground
Best soundtrack ever is Velvet Goldmine, but Rushmore is also very good. Dream with the Fishes and the Zero Effect also good.
I’m a Kronos Quartet fan, when I was in 7th grade someone turned me onto their version of Purple Haze and it blew my mind. The have a new album called Nuevo a heard a song from and it just rocked.
OK, I’ll say it, my favorite thing to do on my Neuros is stream Democracy Now’s broadcast, capture it through a line in recording, and listen to it on the way home through my car stereo.
And, well…. on the radio yesterday I was freaking out and Phil Collin’s there must be some misunderstanding came on and at that moment, in the universe, it just seemed like the greatest song ever.

I lost my taste for Nirvana right after he offed himself, they were the ONLY thing I listened to in high school then my last year is when he went, and on my birthday too...I took it as a sign.
THANKS for the tip on the soul coughing solo project, I have all my cds in line to get loaded to my neuros, soul coughing were next.
Tom Waits, deftinatly, Rain Dogs and Nighthawks are my top 2, I really like Alice too. Wish there were better quality bootlegs out there.
I just finished and hung a HUGE (4 foot square) painting I did of the cover of The Velvet Undergraound and Nico (peel slowly and see) with the bananna. That's a big piece of fruit, and quite the conversation piece. VU's double live disc gets the most play from me. All this talk makes my very disappointed that I'm at work and not working on the other 10 gigs.
P.s. I can't get "Body in the lake" by The Codetalkers (also on Emusic) out of my head lately. |

If you want a better bootleg of Tom Waits...? Try www.emusic.com - I love them... AND a banner ad on their site is where I found out about the Neuros I cherish as dear... Sadly I fear my battery will be one of the first to go! I abuse the poor thing!
Woah, that's a nice rant...
emusic is love... (And Tom Waits is goooood)
I just recently found some stuff by Emme Emp on dmusic.com as well... Going to buy her CD... Very nice... |

I can't recommend eMusic enough. I have been a member since 2001, and have discovered so much good music there, it is ridiculous. Not to mention, the community is pretty cool, too. However, do not subscribe without thoroughly browsing their huge selection. eMusic specializes in independent music. You won't find much from contemporary popular artists, which is a good thing in my opinion. Just about every other day, there is a troll posting the board there with complaints of the lack of Linkin Park and Jay-Z. |
