This probably sounds like a strange request, but is there a way to set the headphone output to mono?
Now that I have received a new Neuros (first one died), I found a handy little setup for playing it over my stereo without MyFi: simply connecting the Neuros headphone output to the stereo's microphone input. Works fine, perfect quality, EXCEPT that only the right "side" is played. Obviously this is because the Neuros expects a stereo line to be connected. So is there a way I can switch it to mono output? |

Make sure the cable is pressed into the stereo completely. If the jack is correctly made, it should make contact with both the right and left channels (that is, the left and right "pins"). It might also be doable in firmware, but I don't know for sure.
This would fall under the category of "Only one person ever would use this feature, is it worth it?" |

Hmm I think you misunderstood or I didn't explain it well. The sound is coming out of both speakers, but not all of it. For example, if one sound is panned all the way to the left, it will come out both speakers. If it is centered, it will come out both. But if it is panned right, it won't come out at all, and this makes the song sound pretty darn strange. (The left/right references might be switched but that doesn't really matter...)
So I was just wondering if there was a mono/stereo option I was missing. Doesn't matter much. |

| I think that's something wrong with your stereo, but regardless, I don't think there's an easy way to do it on the Neuros. |

As he said in his original post, he's plugging it in to the microphone input. Having only a single channel for the mic is expected.
If you have a stereo input on the receiver, that'd be the best option. If not, you may be able to put together a cable connecting the l/r channels into one. The Neuros doesn't have any way to downmix to mono in the firmware, although the source is open so anyone with the right knowledge could add this feature any time. |

If your stereo doesn't have an available stereo input, then you can do the following:
Use a stereo cable out of the Neuros. Connect a "Y" adapter to the left and right channel of the cable from the Neuros. Then, plug the single "Mono" jack on the "Y" cable into the mic input on your stereo. You may need some adapters to get the connectors right, but you should be able to get what you need from places like Best Buy, Circuit City, Good Guys, etc. Radio Shack also has a pretty good supply of adapters too. |

I need to jump on this one. I haven't been on the board in quite a while and am ack for this very thing.
I work in a call center and have a headset sticking out of one of my ears, and I sometimes enjoy playing my tunes into the other one (it helps me stay sane). So I would definately us this feature if it were implemented.
Is it a decoding issue for the firmware? Is it difficult/impossible to turn stereo mp3, etc. tracks into mono? What's the reason for not supporting this function?

A converter is availible at RadioShack, and anywhere else that sells audio equipment (I just had the radioshack catalogue above the digikey and mouser ones...)
Part No. 274-368 or 274-882 are 1/8" stereo to 1/8" mono plug adapters. Should be about $2-3.
