I have many songs on my neuros that are continious 3hrs long. But to hold the fast forward button takes forever to get to like 45min. In a future update it would be cool to have it go slow at first but the longer you hold the fast forward button down the faster the fast forward would go threw the song. This way you could get to the part of the song you like a lot faster :)

I feel your pain. I had an 6 hr audio book from audible.com on the Neuros. It would take so long (like 20-30+ min of holding the fast forward button). One time I had to fast forward to the fourth hour I had waited what seemed like a lifetime and then as I was approaching the spot I needed I accidentally hit and held the play button, turing the Neuros off. I was so mad at myself, and tired of waiting that I just left it until the next day to try again. As I look back I think it would have been better for me to cut that huge MP3 into smaller tracks, but that's not the point. It was with this same file that I discovered some caching problems with big files, but I posted that already on another thread. I'm not sure that the way you describe to go forward is the best way to go. I have a sony voice recorder that does this and it doesn't go fast enough. Yet if one goes too fast they may overshoot where they are trying to go.
I recommend everyone post the best method they can think of for better fast forwarding.

Brainstorm -
VCR or DVD remotes do the variable speed FF and REW with the maximum rate change it seems at 16 or 32x.
Depending on the manufacturer the variable speed can be determined by length of time you hold down the button or force applied.

16 or 32x would be cool but say I was trying to fast forward to a four hour mark in an audio book. I would still have to sit there with my finger on the button for 7.5 minutes. This wouldn't be so bad if one could start from the end of the track not just the begining. Some other players allow this when on the next track of the playlist if the REW button is held down it will not go to the begining of the previous track but will start at the end and go backwards. If the button is just pressed and not held down then it will go to the begining of the previous track as expected.

Bookmarking will help a lot since that will take care of many, if not most times, you want to fast forward that far into an audio file. For files that big, perhaps better than fast forward would be a way to inter an exact time index, although an accelerating fast forward would be nice too. For example, imagine the student recording a lecture in class. He's also taking notes, and the professor stresses something that is important, but its too much to jot down, so he looks at the time index of the recording (I don't remember, does recording show elapsed recording time? if not, it should) and jots that down in his notes. Later in his dorm he wants to go quickly to that exact time index. He doesn't want to spend 5 minutes fast forwarding to it. So he pulls up an Xi menu on the track and selects Goto Time Index then uses the left, up, down, right buttons to select an exact time index, hits play, and starts furiously scribbling notes.

Is there Quicker fast forward anytime in the near future as an update. Because trying to fast forward threw a 2hr song set takes forever.
Thanks

Really it would be ideal for the menu (the Xi menu, as I understand, would be good for stuff like this) to have a skip ahead submenu with several options like:
- +30 sec
- +1 min
- +2.5 min
- +5 min
- +10 min
- +30 min
- +1 hour
- -1 hour
- -30 min
- -10 min
- -5 min
- -2.5 min
- -1 min
- -30 sec
I ordered it this way because the menu loops around, so the furthest option would be -1 hour.
Order Number: 2249 |

I think for such long tracks I would rather have a numeric input option so I could say "skip to 4:00:00" and it would go to 4 hours, 0 minutes and 0 seconds, then FF from there manually.

Related to this topic, I'd thought I'd mention that the fast forward bug still exists in f/w 1.36 beta. The bug appears as follows. Fast-forward though a long track. Hit play. After a short period of time, the player will jump back to a skipped section of the track. The time will be incorrect for the portion of track actually playing. I recently experienced it after ffwd'ing 2 hours into an FM recording.

One question are you hitting play after you fast forward to pause it or during FF...I mean if you take your finger off the FF button it will play on its own.
Regardless of how it happens, it sounds like a buffering problem. Have you tried firmware 1.38?

Something similar to this is happening to me as well (even with fw 1.38). I'm not sure if it's actually skipping backward or if it's skipping forward (I haven't really paid attention to it all that much )...but it is skipping. This is on a track length of 73:45.

Has there been any plans for making a better fast forward? It takes forever to fast forward on this thing. Even if I split the files up into sections, it's a huge pain.

I'll tell you what is bad. When you're listening to a long track and are most of the way through it, then by accident you start another track or the Neuros has some error and you lose your presets. Perhaps something can be done to work in a way similar to the timed recording function on the Garbage branch firmware. It shouldn't skip to that time until you push play because a preset deep in a track takes a long time to load. Speaking of Garbage, a new Garbage album is coming out next month (April).
