Don't know if this has been posted elsewhere, but here you go. There is a picture/artist depiction of it there, too.

Straight from CES.
Sneak Peek at the Neuros 3, aka PocketPlayer Mon Jan 24 2005, 08:19AM A few weeks ago we reported about the next-generation player from Neuros, the PocketPlayer. Now that I'm finally getting around to scanning in these flyers from CES, I have this one picture to share. It's not much, but gives you some idea of what to expect. We havn't seen the actual player yet either. Should be another 6 months or so before it's ready, according to the rep.
So, what about the design? It does seem a little plain although the final product will cerainly look better than it appears here. What makes this player interesting is the long list of features, even though it's roughly the same size as other mini-players. The PocketPlayer does pretty much everything you could want (except perhaps, video recording). And like they've done with the old Nueros, the firmware will be open-source.
Details: • 5gb, 1-inch HD • 1.8-inch 65k color LCD (160x128 pixel) • USB 2.0, USB 1.1 Host • MPEG4 Video playback (10fps) • JPEG picture view • FM radio, time-set radio recording • Voice Recording • Supports MP3, WMA (+DRM), AAC, OGG, WAV • Drag-n-drop music loading • Charge from USB • Playback up to 10 hours • 89 x 58 x 18mm, 110g |

to bad they could not make a larger hard drive player that plays all those formats. I would buy it in an instant

Wait for the real N3. This is just the Neuros PocketPlayer. It's like a Neuros 3 Mini.

Didn't realize there was another product coming besides the media encoder box (whose name I forget) and the N3. Anyway, still interesting info for whatever it is.

Yes, I need to contact dapreview and personally apologize, Joe and I miscommunicated before CES. We will be launching several products ths year, while working on the Neuros III. The Neuros III will be a product that we design, create the firmware, etc. I will clarify this more in the future, but just wanted to put in a clarification/apology. The Neuros III specs will be coming along fairly soon, with one critical feature being "NeuroCast", previously known as "MyFi".

Awesome - can't wait. If it has the same features as the PP has, with NCast and a good line-in, etc... it's sure to be a hit.
I wonder if the PP will have NCast?

The FLAC-support even for NI and NII is a work in progress, the gapless playback works with filetypes which meet the following criterias:
- don't have to fill full frames at the end (like mp3 does) - don't have a too high bitrate (like everything ogg more than -q2 has)
These are my experiences, so with my main music collection I still have gaps, since they are -q6 !

can anyone guess, predict or verify if the Neuros III will have Flash memory capability in addition to HD, just like previous Neuros units.
For my purpose I want to record to Flash Memory because it is not sensitive to bumps and is quiet. I record interviews in quiet settings and I also record in bumpy, rough conditions. I like Flash recording capability combined with HD storage capability.
Anyone with knowledge of the Neuros III like to offer some insight.

| they're ditching the backpack system, so i doubt they'll put enough flash into the unit tobe able to record to it. It would be nice to see an sd or cf slot though. I would relly like to hear what kinda specs will likely be in the N3. |

I'll second that! Being able to record to a flash card would be sweet (and to transfer it to the hard drive afterwards)!! I would love to see a card slot on the Neuros III.

Agreed about retaining the preset buttons. Actually, I like everything about the specs for the "PocketPlayer" listed above except for the small HD. I would wish that someone would finally do a full AM/FM receiver on a HD MP3 player, 'cause that would really make any timed recording function worthwhile. Call it my own paucity of imagination, but there seem little point otherwise. And of course, I hope that whatever the specs, the thing has the Neuros look and feel. I found it slick and intuitive to use from jump and would hate to see that change substantially.
I do hope that Neuros I/II owners aren't entirely left behind when the shiny new Neurosi arrive. Not that I'm expecting picture viewing or video playback on my current unit, but things like drag 'n drop music loading or even text file viewing can't be but so hard to implement. In fact, given the niceties of the beta 2.28 firmware, it seem like that's the direction in which we're moving (?).

Well, it's been quite a while since this thread had a post. I'm out of the loop. Is there any new info about the Neuros III?
I'm still digging my 40 GB Neuros II. My favorite features are:
Open source Ogg support Built-in FM transmitter (so cool and useful) Robust notebook HD Linux compatibility (thanks Sorune!)
After my Rio Karma 20 microdrive died, I'm not a big fan of the tiny 1" hard drives. Part of the problem was the battery that swelled and flexed and damaged the Rio Karma microdrive, but the small drive had what appeared to be stiction and other reliability problems even when it was new, and customer suport was worthless. Lesson: Don't buy a Rio product.
Features are worthless unless the hardware is reliable. So far, the Neuros II is a rock solid brick. I'm hoping for more Neuros goodness in the Neuros III.
I hope the hardware designers don't go overboard trying to keep up with the rush to miniature digital audio players. The Neuros II is small enough for my tastes. I'd much rather they concentrated on making a reliable, reasonably priced, full feature digital audio player.
I'm over 40, so a large and legible LCD would be a real bonus. I'd like less information so the info that was on the LCD could be large and easy to read. Even for young folks with good eyesight, audio players are often used in dim lighting or while in motion, so greater legibility would be nice.
