The upgrade process went smoothly for me. Make sure you read all the instructions first. I tried the new features and they work as advertised. |

Any hints on how audio "shuffle" works? Do all the files have to be in a single directory, or can multiple folders (albums/artists) be designated?
It seems like "update playlist" only applies to the current folder. |

Just so you know, our beta group and a few other 442 owners have been testing it over the last few days. We are also working on an updated version of the Quick Start Guide where we will include instructions for these new features.
Here are detailed instructions:
1. Make sure you have the 1.2.2 version: (if you don't have this version send us an email) Use the Navigation Joystick to highlight the Setting Options icon and press the Play/Pause button. Scroll down until you see the second screen where you will see Firmware Version. Use the Navigation Joystick to highlight it and press the Play/Pause button, a window with 1.2.2 should appear. Click on the Back/Exit button to exit the window and the Settings Options category.
2. Connect you 442 to your computer with the USB cable provided. The 442 will appear as a removable hard drive. Click on the Neuros 442 Icon on your computer screen, and delete any .BIN file you see on the hard drive of the 442.
3. You will have to “Extract” or unzip the file provided for the upgrade. The name of the extracted file is LOAD.BIN. This is the file you want to copy and paste (or drag and drop) on your 442 (add it directly to the Hard drive of the 442, not a file folder).
4. Unplug USB and use the Navigation Joystick to highlight the Setting options of the 442 and press the Play/Pause button. Scroll down to Firmware Upgrade and press the Play/Pause button. You will see a window with the message updating blinking on the 442 screen. The update will take a few minutes.
5. Once the upgrade is done the unit will shut itself down
6. Power on the unit, and check the Firmware version as described in step 1. The number should now be 1.2.4
7. Enjoy!
If you have any doubts about the procedure, email us a support@neurosaudio.com or call us.

The upgrade went without problems. Among the new features are shuf(fle) & rand(om)play, can anyone tell me the difference as they both play the tracks randomly. Rudi |

Does the new upgrade allow you to select a different format for recording? Sorry I have not gotten my 442 in to upgrade yet and wanted to know. Thanks You .

No, it just adds a timer recording, pause recording and shuffle option. Johan Neuros

I have upgraded the firmware. The shuffle works fine, I just cant seem to get it to work with music in multiple folders? If not, that would real nice because I have all my music organized in folders. It would be cool to have a function to expand all music folders into one large list of music that allows shuffle and random. Maybe this is already possible, if it is will someone please share how to do this?
As for ice.skillz ...I just press down on the joypad and it skips the song to the next one. |

Can you create a favorites list and then select play on the favorites list? I haven't tried it, as I don't use my 442 as an MP3 player, but it looks like you could with the new upgraded firmware.

I don't use the 442 for playing Music much but here are a couple things that seemed to work for me when I was testing the features out.
Select "Repeat ALL" and then update playlist, this seems to give you one big list of all music in all folders. Now when you select shuffle or random play it should cycle thru all the music files.
There is also a option to save a specific music file to the Favorites list. Then to play the Favorites you select "Repeat Favorites" and then update the playlist. Now when you select shuffle it should just play the music you added to Favorites.
Let me know if these work for you. |

JEFF, I tried this with my 442 but it didnt work. What I have on my 442 is a large music folder with folders inside sorted by artist names. When I "Repeat All" it opens all of the folders in the "Music" folder. But when I go select "Repeat All" or "Shuffle" and it automatically puts all the music back into folders and it shows me the "Music" folder with all of my artist folders instead of randomly playing music. Any other ideas? I havent had too much time to play around with it, but its not hard to try the different options. Ive gone through all the basic options to try to get it to work.
Right now, Ive created another folder with all my music in it, not organized to hear it randomly. |

rls-
Make sure you select update playlist every time to change settings (highlight it and press Play/Pause you should see an hourglass). It might be the reason why it did not work out.
Based on your feedback about the Quick Start Guide, we are working on an update version of the manual (we had to add new sections with the upgrade) but we should be able to have this on our website soon. I hope it will answer most questions you might have.
By the way JEFFH thanks for your help.

I tried it again tonight and could only get music files in a folder to shuffle play. I have music my files in folders by artist and then album name. I must select the specific album folder I want and open it and then all songs in that folder will shuffle play.

I have tried that. The thing that I cant get to work is I have 1 main music folder. Within that folder I have numerous folders based on artist, as a way to organize. Maybe its not possible yet, but it would be nice to expand the folders (which I can do now), and then with the playlist that shows up run a random or shuffle on the showing playlist. The way the new firmware updates work, when you try this in this sequence, it puts the music back in their respective folders.
The shuffle and random work on one folder (Personally I dont know the difference). But when I expand all my music folders into 1 playlist, I cant repeat or shuffle.
As a suggestion for the next firmware update, it would be nice to see the shuffle/random function work on any playlist that is up on the screen. This way, obsessive compulsive people like me can still enjoy the random music even with their alphabeticalize music folders.
BTW, if there is a way to do this, and Im just missing it, please let me know.
Thanks, rlspalding |

I want a easy way to shuffle all music tracks on my 442 and have not found a way I can do this using my current music folders and sub-folders. Shuffle play is limited to only working within one folder and will not work with sub-folders. hopefully Neuros will improve this feature on the 442V2 and future Firmware updates. |

On another note, has anyone done a shuffle on the same folder two different times, it always comes out the same. I think this is the way it is on the random function too? Why not use a random generator so it is truely random for both functions? Or is that too hard to program? |

I am not sure if we have answered the question abotu the difference between shuffle and random: Shuffle will play randomly all the files within the selected folder once, as the random option will play teh files randomly (some might play more than once, other might not be played). (we added this to our wiki).
