I've read several books on my Sony Clie and I'm really hoping to do the same in the future on my 442. Another thing I'd like to be able to do is publish and read comics as a series of images. People are already doing this on their PSPs (http://nyc2123.com/).
I've been experimenting with some old black and white images I've done and they just look horrible. The text is very difficult to read. One would think that the higher the resolution of the image, the clearer it would be, but that is not the case. In fact, I saved one horizontal image as a 320 px wide JPG and it looks the best out of the batch. The PSP only has 480 x 272 but B&W; art on it looks absolutley stunning.
The menu images look really nice, but I do see dithering. Are they GIFs?
What are the pixel dimensions I should be shooting for? I've tried 720 wide, 640 wide and 320 wide in GIF and JPG formats. None of them are ideal, but some are better than others. Any help would be appreciated. |

Have you done more testing on this?

Well, no. I was hoping someone could answer my questions first:
Does anyone know what format the splash screen images are? GIFs? BMPs? JPGs? PNGs?
What is the actual pixel resolution of the screen? Part of the problem is that no matter what rez the image is, the 442 displays it as large as possible while maintaining the aspect ratio. So if I knew what dimensions will give me an image displayed at 100%, I can go from there.
You might say, "Hey, go to the FAQ and stop wasting our time, pal." but I can't find any hard answers there either. For example:
quote: The video quality is dependant upon the quality of the original content and signal, but the Neuros 442 can display up to 320x240 at 30 frames per second on its built-in screen and up to 720x480 at 30 frames per second when outputting the video signal to a TV... the unit can capture up to 704x240 (HVGA) video at 30 frames per second.
What are the specifications and file compatibility for viewing photos?
The Neuros 442 features a photo viewer for displaying JPGs (6M pixels), BMPs (max. 1600 x 1200 pixels) and GIFs (max. 1023 x 1600 pixels).
I had pretty good luck with shooting for 320x240, but it could have been better. Is that the best I can hope for? |

| The Wiki says the screen is 320x240. I also believe it is a 65000 color display also, if that matters at all. |
