For those of you who have been waiting for a good encoding program i highly suggest this....AND DID I MENTION IT IS OPEN SOURCE AND FREE!!!
download it here:
http://expandinglimits.com/drdivx/node/7
you will need to place these files in the install directory b/c they cant be distributed with the dr.:
http://www.matroska.org/~robux4/drdivx/
also, if you have a dual core processor...i would suggest picking up the he-3 codec from divx labs...it allows me to process a divx file in about 3/4 realtime...or better. (22min .asf --> 18min encode time into .divx using better quality level with two passes...TWO PASSES!!!).
its still beta...but its still better than anything i can find right now.
EDIT: first file successfully encoded....and it looks very good, i am going to go out on a limb and actually say (which i know isnt true) that the quality actually looks better. Also, this program can encode straight from .vob to divx, and yes, it will combine the files for you. the file i encoded was origionally 325mb...it was reduced to 250mb.

no, you cant, the only way is to use VirtualDubMod, and extract the things you want. which sucks, because u gotta do everything manually, and u cant batch files.

Wow, that seems like a great program! My brother had some other DivX encoder for his AV700, but it doesn't work anymore. I'll recommend this program to him.
One question, though: Let's say we ripped my Futurama DVDs into VOB files to convert to AVI with Dr. DivX, with each VOB as one episode. If I select multiple files at one time, will I get multiple AVI files back out or will it combine them all into one big file? I would want the separate files since these are individual episodes. Is there a setting to control this? |

J: I think if you select the files all in one job, it will combine them into one file. although, you can do batch converting. So you could set up multiple jobs for each .vob file and then tell them all to run and convert, i think that should work.
ice: yeah, to tell you the truth i have never even heard of .mkv files. but i think your right, i dont think it does.
