I saw somewhere that the N3 is delayed til Q1/2007. Flash memory now costs $35/GB -retail- and is dropping like a rock. It will probably be $20/GB at N3 introduction and $5-10/GB by mid-lifecycle for the N3.
I've lost interest in hard drive players. By the time flash is $10/GB, I'll buy a 20GB flash player and put my whole music collection in it as Oggs. Please consider doing an all-flash version of the N3. It should have a CF slot (SD/MMC if you insist) and be powered by one AA battery, or two AA's if absolutely necessary or an AAA if the unit is really small. Right now the only player like this is the Frontier Lab Nex series and those are built like crap and are quite power hungry (plus the Nexblack is delayed over and over).
I think I'm going to go buy a Sandisk M260 to tide me over. That's a 4GB player for $159.95 at circuitcity.com. But that's mp3-only (I mean no Ogg or Flac; it has WMA but I don't count that); it doesn't have such great audio, has a poor UI, is closed source etc. On the other hand it runs for 18 hours on one AAA cell and has an FM tuner, and weighs around 2 ounces.
