| When listening to CDs, I sometimes glance at the jewel case to see what song is coming up next. I wish there were a way to see the upcoming song while the current one is playing. Could the Xi menu have such an option? |

Cool feature idea. I like it.
Would we be able to work it into the display in general, since it seems we have so much dead space on the "play" screen? |

I do agree on the dead space. When the tools come out for developers there will be a lot of changes to that.

If we had the multithreading support, wouldn't this more or less fall out of that? That is, pushing the joystick to the left would take us to the playlist or other folder of songs currently playing, preferably positioning us at the one currently playing. We could then move the stick up and down to select and examine songs just played or will play soon.
Oh, just through of a related idea. When playing in random mode in the car, I often can't look to see "who is that?". How about an automatically generated playlist that has the last N songs that have been played by the unit. That way, when I get to a stop light, I can go back and see the info on the mystery song.

I guess you don't right now since I believe it picks the next song after the current song is finished. What I've asked for in the past is a "sort" operation that can sort songs in a folder (such as a particular genre or artist, etc.) by various criteria. One of those criteria would be "random". This would have several advantages.
1) it would insure you would play through all the songs without repeats 2) it would allow you to see whats up next, or what has played recently 3) the randomization seed could be stored with bookmarks so that I can effectively bookmark not only what song I was on, but what order the songs were going to be played in.

i'm loving this idea ..i consume vast amounts of music and vehemontly dislike hearing the same song more than once or twice { esp those opening tracks of an album which can gets so overplayed! } ..so i almost always using random playback ..firmware 1.41n does a great job of this ..but i'd love to be able to get a sneak peak at what artist and song title is coming up next ..perhaps this could replace the pretty meaningless genre info currently displayed beneath the album title... .. . i mean if i'm listening to it i really DON'T need to be told what genre it falls under .[!]..
remember : less is often more ..rather take the genre info out of the playback display pretty please .i find it offensive : heheheh... .. .
:: peace out ::: :: : |
