I was just wondering if there were any updates on what is put into the 2.55 OSDng version. I checked the osd.oddren.com site, but it only has 2.54 in the change log. I'm really hoping for any USB recording fixes that might be implemented. I saw it was mentioned in the "Known bugs that aren't on my short list".

USB fix is not easy. It requires porting a driver from 2.6.4 linux up to a current linux release. I believe he is working on it, but it will take time.

I figured it wasn't easy. I just haven't seen updates for the 2.55 version out there yet and was just wondering what was included or if there is someplace that I can check other than osd.oddren.com. I currently don't have my OSD connected to the internet, but I would be willing to do so if I knew what I was getting in the updates. I do appreciate all of the work that has went into OSDng. I have recently upgraded to Arizona after switching back to Torfu from OSDng because I was having recording issues. For some reason, Arizona appears to be recording correctly now. I'm apprehensive to upgrade to OSDng for fear that it could have caused my recording issues (unlikely I know, but slightly possible).

While the Neuros Wiki is a perfectly acceptible place to put things like OSDng release history and notes, I think that the osd.oddren.com is the only place they're trying to keep current.

If you have done a current refresh the 2.55 should be there
might have to check the OSDng Packages Show Available screen or the Show Installed screen
I checked my OSDng Status screen and it shows
hardware version 3.33
base rootfs version 2.52
base OSDng version 2.55

yanvrno, AmrineA is looking for the release notes, not the firmware proper.

Hey guys.

2.55 was a minor update.  I added the changes to http://osd.oddren.com/changelog to sate your curiosity.

USB recording improvements require some major kernel hacking.

There aren't currently any improvements (or regressions) in USB recording between Arizona and OSDng, I haven't touched that side of things.

Oddly enough, and I'm not sure why this is, and I've been able to verify it twice, but when I have OSDng installed, I have recording issues. With the latest version of Arizona everything works fine.

What sort of issues? Please give as much info as you can.

One problem Neuros fought with for a long time was the unit running out of memory, and tried to reduce the resource usage as much as possible.

Generally what happens is that it will start recording. However, when I hit the stop button, it generally just hangs and doesn't do anything. Sometimes I left it for hours with no response. Obviously the only thing I can do is unplug it to reboot. The media file is no good at that point. It seems to be that the longer the file is, the longer it will hang. Sometimes it will finish the recording just fine and other times it doesn't. The majority of the time it doesn't. I don't have this problem in Torfu or Arizona, just OSDng. Perhaps OSDng is trying to do too much for this little device. When I use OSDng, I generally have it installed on the CF card.

Is there anyway to determine that it is a memory issue? Everything else works fine except for the recording.

So it hangs when you stop recording...

Recording onto what?  Size?  Manufacturer?

Sorry, I'm not sure how I missed this for such a long time and didn't respond. I'm recording onto a USB Maxtor 3100 100GB 7200RPM hard drive formatted with ext2. It has it's own power supply.

I haven't seen any updates on OSDng lately. Is there still being development done on this? I haven't had my OSD connected to the internet for quite a while, so I haven't updated or done anything else that would normally require network connectivity. I'm currently running Arizona, as it seems to record without any issues.

For those who may care, I believe the problem was memory related. I reinstalled the OSDng tonight and enabled the swap space (not sure why I never saw it before). I set it to 16MB and then recorded 30 minutes and it finished without any problems. So assuming that this trend keeps up, enabling the swap space seems to give it the breathing room it needs.
