Possible to port VLC to OSD?

As I mentioned in another thread, I usually use VLC (on a Windows/x86 box) to play back vids recorded with the OSD.  This of course begs the question of: Would it be possible to run VLC on the OSD?

Has anyone tried to do the port?

I believe that VLC was going to be the engine in the OSD2, but don't hold me to that.

AFAIK, though, nobody has tried on the original OSD.

The problem is the hardware and drivers are pretty much a "black box", so anything that can't be don't with the existing closed-source components... can't be done. [for example, there ought to be enough bandwidth to play FLAC with DSP assistance, but without knowing how to talk to or program the DSP...].
