I currently own both the Mpeg-4 Recorder 2 Plus as well as the Creative Zen Vision W and what makes it really frustrating  is that  they are so close to working with each other, except Creative decided not to include AAC support in their advertised Mpeg4 player.
Hence, i can see the videos of recordings done by the Recoder 2, but unfortunately..no audio. Sad

Are there any plans in the future to have a firmware upgrade to allow mp3 recordings? Or should i give up any hope and start looking into offloading the recorder2 plus on ebay and purchase the OSD instead ?(which is a waste as i just want to record shows to watch them of my Zen)

If the reluctance for such a firmware is due to mp3 licensing/cost, why not charge for that particular firmware download? I would gladly pay a reasonable sum for such capabilities as it would save me a lot of time from not having to to re-encode my recordings.
Besides, would it not  further extend the reach of the Recorder 2 Plus to target a larger PMP/PVP audience if such functionality was included?

This is one of the reasons I purchased an OSD, because AAC audio is a bugger, even on TCMP it won't play because of licensing issues. My Archos 604 (similar to Zen Vision W) needed a $20 plugin to play the AAC too. The good news is that AAC is starting to get broader support, but that doesn't help you now.

There wont be anymore firmware upgrades for the Recorder 2, we are  not sure when or if ever.  We are concentrating on the OSD at the moment, any info regarding new products or firmware will be posted on the website and forum.

Hi All

Just thought I'd share some useful findings with the good folks here. Turns out its a relatively simple process  to get the mp4 recordings to work on the Zen Vision W without wasting hours transcoding.
Just need two softwares
1)Yamb
2) an aac to mp3 converter (i'm using BonkEnc)

Simply use Yamb to extract both the video and Audio in RAW format.
Use an audio converter software to convert the aac file to mp3
Use Yamb to merge both the raw video (extracted earlier) and mp3 file .

The entire process takes about 5 minutes.

Boy am i glad i don't have to let either my Zen or Recorder go, as 5 minutes of converting is definitely bearable in my book . Anyway just thought this little discovery was worth sharing Smiley

Cheers
