I saw on the technical spcecs that the LINK is running "Neuros distribution of Ubuntu 8.10"

What level of access to the underlying OS is there? I'm wondering about the possibility of running boxee.tv on this machine as well...

With a 6 month return policy, I guess I'll just try it myself! Smiley

As far as I can tell, it's Ubuntu 8.10 with some custom Neuros packages. You will have complete access to the OS I believe. The filesystem is read/write so you can apt-get all you want.

greyback is right, in fact I installed Boxee myself, but as I said in a previous post, I didn't spend enough time to get it quite right (or maybe I just don't know how to use it).  Again, this is something I personally would love to see, so we'll support any efforts to get it going, and yeah that's exactly what the return period is for, don't be shy about putting it to use.  There's nothing wrong with planning on returning it if it doesn't live up to your expectations or can't support what you're looking to do.

Seriously great stuff Joe!   I am so jazzed about this box!  I REALLY have to get a HDTV at home, but this box also looks like it would be very hackable to run OTHER things on it too!

You can use it with a monitor too if you don't need the tuner, and save some money that way.

A REALLY great point Joe!  Plus there ARE some LCD monitors that are pretty cheap that have HDMI inputs as well.

Sorry to bring bad news, but our return policy is 4 months no-questions-asked on the Neuros LINK Gamma...  hopefully that won't deter you anyway!

Ah, wasn't sure if that, or the product page or gamma wiki was correct. I went ahead and edited the Gamma wiki page with that info

Thanks!
