1  Neuros Digital Audio Computer / Neuros Digital Audio Computer - I need help! / Re: Continued problems after battery replacement on: February 26, 2006, 11:26:36 PM
Any ideas? I've been hooking my car adapter up to a 12v wall wart, the little light thingy turns on fine and the charging screen comes up, could the battery still be not getting the right kind of power somehow?
2  Neuros Digital Audio Computer / Neuros Digital Audio Computer - I need help! / Continued problems after battery replacement on: February 25, 2006, 08:08:36 PM
I posted a thread early about my non charging neuros, I ordered the neuros batter from digital innovations, got it installed, and presto! It started charging up fine and I could look through everything and see my music. So I left it over night, and then this morning updated the firmware and whatever. The battery icon had no bars, but I figured it would just take a while to show up or something. No such luck.

It works fine when plugged in with the new battery, but it doen't charge, AT ALL. The little LED in the backpack blinks nicely when it's hooked up to the charger and everything, but it doesn't seem to do any actual charging. Any ideas? It seems odd considering theat it doesn't work at all with the old battery, but turns on if plugged in with the new one. Any help would be appreciated.

When my original neuros I was functional I got about 8hrs play time average. How high do you have the volume? Also, skipping songs a lot will lower the overall playtime as the hard drive has to load stuff more frequently.

My music computer is Gentoo Linux, but it looks like sorune should work fine with that. (it's not in portage though, so I'll have to install myself. oh well) Should be easy enough, what really annoyed my about NDBM is that it wanted to have ALL of your music that you might want to put in on it's own little stupid database.

That should work for me, thanks.

Thanks rcgfn, the extremely long list sortof threw me off as I haven't used the Neuros since the firmware upgrade that allowed USB 2.0, so I don't really know the standard features either.

I'm glad to have a file browser, though I'm worried about the slowness. My neuros was already pretty slow browsing through large amounst of synced things. Does anyone know if the Neuros can search through and add them to its database without the assistance of a sync manager?

I remember when I first got my neuros 1 using the sync software was generally a pain in the ass, and you couldn't just throw files onto the unit without using a sync program. There was some "find orphans" option or some such thing that always seemed to just delete all of my music.

With the newer firmwares, is it possible to just drag the files into the neuros and have the unit find them? Also, are there any significant differences between the firmware here and the garbage or whatever on the open source site? The site just says to look at the changelog, but that isn't really very helpful.

Thanks for any help.

That was sortof my thought, I figure if I can get the battery direct from digital innovations it will be worth it just for the ease of plugging it right in without screwing around with the circuit board.

Wups, just figured it out.  Took forever to find the neuros diy site. Hopefully I can get an extra battery from Neuros for not too much.

I have a torx head screwdriver of the correct size and was actually just trying to disassemble it. I spose instructions would probably be beneficial. Email is just my username at gmail.com.

I have a Neuros 1 20g with the USB 2.0 backpack that I've had for a while now, but hadn't used for ages. Part of my reason for not using it is that it doesn't seem to take a charge anymore (from either car charger or wall charger) and taking faceplates off and on, plugging it into the computer, etc. all do absolutely nothing. I could send it in, but I'm sure it's out of warranty and I'd really like to move on to a smaller flash based player anyway (iAudio has some pretty nifty stuff).

Is there any way to get it to just run off of the wall power so I can at least use it as an external hard drive? Or is there any reason that someone might want an old neuros for projects of some sort?

I would just send it in for repair, but I don't want to shell out for the charges as I would likely just use it as a nifty external drive.
